DIRECTOR OF SALES/US GROCERY
Company Description: Steeped Coffee is the new standard in single-serve coffee. Steeped, Inc. is operating in the high-growth specialty coffee and single-serve coffee spaces and uses innovation to bring these two markets together for the first time. Steeped is located in Scotts Valley, CA (in the Santa Cruz area) and has developed a proprietary single-serve coffee method that is brewed in bags (similar to tea) and is entirely made from fully compostable materials. Steeped sells directly under the Steeped Coffee brand to B2C and B2B customers, while also licensing the Steeped Brewing Method and technology to a growing list of national and international coffee roasters and other private label partners.

The Director of Sales/US Grocery is a valuable senior leadership team member, helping to lead the company’s sales vision and values.Oversee the Steeped’s Grocery retailers, distributors, and brokers network by identifying new business for the brand in Mass, Supermarket, Natural/Organic stores, Military, and independent channels.Work with Steeped management to identify sales strategies to penetrate the market and grow the brand.Help develop sales materials for account calls and sales presentations successfully.
Department Structure: Reports to the Vice President of Sales
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Identify and pursue new distribution opportunities within the grocery and retail segment.
- Review and analyze sales budgets and trade spending to ensure alignment with monthly and annual goals.
- Regularly update projections to track against annual sales goals and provide accurate data to Operations for effective inventory management and maximized inventory turns.
- Develop and execute strategic account plans, including pricing and promotional strategies, SKU optimization, and strategic product placement.
- Coordinate with the Operations team to ensure timely supply, purchase orders, and demand planning, particularly for newly onboarded accounts.
- Selectively establish and cultivate relationships with key distributors to expand into strategic markets.
- Schedule and attend category reviews, business reviews, and trade shows to help promote brand visibility and expand market presence.
- Oversee administrative tasks related to new item paperwork, specification changes, and retailer cost adjustments.
- Manage and coordinate brokers to represent and promote the brand in the grocery and retail channels.
- Analyze monthly sales data to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement.
- Maintain regular communication with distributors to ensure effective collaboration and maximize brand presence in their serviced accounts.
- Set and monitor sales goals and performance metrics for individual accounts and the channel.
- Develop a priority list of target accounts for brand presentation based on market potential and product fit.
- Communicate with brokers to discuss account details, including specification changes, cost adjustments, and sales by account, and provide necessary tools and resources for effective brand representation.
- Collaborate with Marketing and Sales teams to execute product demonstrations, trade shows, and promotional events to drive brand awareness and increase sales.
- Monitor store-level sell-through data to analyze the effectiveness of different customers and sales/marketing strategies. Use this information to develop a comprehensive plan for the grocery channel.
Required Skills / Experience
- Proven ability to articulate the distinct aspects of services and products
- Flexible and able to manage projects with varying timelines
- 5-10 years in Sales Grocery/Big Box Retail Channel. Bonus for experience and contacts within the Outdoor Retail channel
- Understanding how to position products against competitors
- Excellent listening, negotiation, and presentation skills
- Excellent internal and external customer service skills
- Knowledge of how to develop client-focused, differentiated, and achievable solutions
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong systems skills, including proficiency with integrated software applications, Google Suite, Spreadsheets, and Apps
- Ability to communicate with team members at all levels
- Ability to work well autonomously and within a team
- ERP/MRP experience preferred
Job Type and Salary Range
- Full-time, non-exempt, M-F

- Salary range:Base $70,000.00 - $90,000.00 annually + Commissions

- Comfortable/accommodating working environment (remote)
- Ability to sit for long periods (4-6 hours)

- Must be able to lift up 15-25 pounds at a time
