This is a cost shared position serving The Ohio State University at Newark and Central Ohio Technical College.

The HR Consultant will work closely with HR Business Partners to support managers, supervisors, faculty, staff, and student employees by delivering HR support that enhances organizational performance. The HR Consultant will partner with leaders and managers to support strategic initiatives and ensure delivery of excellent HR service.
The HR Consultant will develop a deep understanding of the operations of the academic units they support and offer solutions, execute core HR operations, and generate and interpret HR reports. The HR Consultant will collaborate with HR Connection (Ohio State’s HR service delivery center) and HR Centers of Excellence (COEs) to ensure the delivery of HR services that advance the mission and strategic objectives of the organization and provide an exceptional employee experience.
This individual contributor is responsible for providing consultation across the college to align the organization’s strategic objectives, HR best practices, and employee and manager needs spanning a range of HR topics, including diversity, equity and inclusion strategies, performance, employee relations, talent acquisition and development, workforce planning, learning and professional development, compensation, benefits, and other academic HR functions.
The HR Consultant guides leaders to effectively utilize core HR COEs and services. The role will also support leaders, managers, and supervisors with HR-related activities throughout the employee lifecycle such as recruiting, onboarding, pay and job changes, performance management, life events, and terminations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Preparing and submitting exception requests for compensation changes and hiring.
- Consulting and approving transactions in Workday—job requisitions; edit position restrictions; job offers; onboarding setup.
- Communicating with unit business office to ensure funding and unit assignments are set up appropriately for all employees.
- Initiating transactions (e.g., one-time payments).
- Researching issues and questions related to timekeeping and pay.
- Generating reports (e.g., for quarterly and annual reports and surveys, upon request by unit leaders, workforce statistics, including hires and separations.
- Partnering with ADA Coordinators for accommodation request; monitoring FMLA activity, vacation donation request.
Required Education and Experience:
- 4-8 years of relevant experience required
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required
Desired Education and Experience:
- Experience using Workday is preferred.
- Advanced degree in relevant field desirable.
- Proven ability to build productive working relationships with a wide variety of constituencies.
- PHR or SHRM-CP certification.
- 4+ years of relevant experience preferred.
Target Hiring Range: $67,700 - $85,000
Function:
Human Resources is responsible for establishing HR-related policies and controls, partnering with clients to provide solutions, executing HR operations, providing and interpreting HR-related reports, and supporting strategic decisions.
Sub-Function:
HR Business Partners are responsible for providing designated leaders with strategic consultation by aligning business objectives with employee and manger needs on cross discipline matters including performance, succession, learning, compensation, benefits, etc. Helps leaders effectively utilize core HR programs and processes such as in the Total Rewards and Talent Management areas. Supports designated leaders, managers and supervisors in HR lifecycle activities such as recruiting, onboarding, pay and job changes, performance management, life events, and terminations.

Typically requires a university degree or equivalent work experience that provides knowledge of fundamental theories, principles, and concepts.
