Job Description
Department Overview:
The OHSU Knight Cancer Institute is a pioneer in personalized cancer treatment and research, led by Dr. Brian Druker, whose development of Gleevec transformed Chronic Myeloid Leukemia from a fatal disease to a manageable one and proved that targeted therapies can work. The institute focuses on precision oncology, the early detection, prevention, and treatment of cancer, and creating a welcoming and supportive environment for its caregivers, researchers, and support personnel. Function/Duties of Position:
The HR and Administrative Assistant performs clerical duties related to support activities in the department’s Human Resources and Administrative section. This entry-level position is responsible for performing various day-to-day process-oriented action items supporting the Knight HR, Knight Admin, Central HRBP, and TAP teams with activities related to Faculty and Staff recruitment, employee relations, labor relations, compensation, payroll and timekeeping, and FMLA/OFLA administration, and other duties as assigned.

2.Knight HR Support – Processing/managing transactional actions related to recruitment, onboarding/offboarding, payroll and timekeeping, and protected leave administration.

3.Central HRBP and TAP Support – Processing/managing transactional actions related to employee relations, labor relations, and compensation.

4.Providing Ad Hoc support to Department Administrator, Sr. HR Manager, Supervisor & Knight Admin team with miscellaneous tasks including, but not limited to, scheduling, filing, office/clerical support, facilities support, etc.

5.Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Education and experience:
  • One year of general office or secretarial experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • High school diploma

Job related knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Must possess energy and drive to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks at one time
  • Intermediate skills with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Access, Word, and PowerPoint) on Window OS. Ability to accurately type 60wpm
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team while being collaborative in resolving problems
  • Excellent communication, analytical and organizational skills: both written and verbal
  • Must have demonstrated excellent customer service skills both on the phone and in person
  • Ability to use tact and diplomacy to maintain effective working relationships
