About Our Job
The City and County of Denver's Office of Human Resources (OHR) has an exciting opportunity for an Online Instructional Designer.
The Online Instructional Designer will work with diverse employee groups citywide in a hybrid working environment where learning is more critical than ever.
The ideal candidate will skillfully apply industry-standard instructional design practices and creativity to develop engaging leadership development learning experiences in several modalities, including instructor-led, blended, and online. This role is highly consultative and will provide service excellence and direction to stakeholders throughout the design process. This individual will take initiative to maintain productive relationships with subject matter experts and team members and ensure projects are on target.

Additionally, as an Online Instructional designer you will:
  • Demonstrate continuous process and quality improvement, decrease production times, enhance content quality, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality customer service
  • Ensure all training courses have defined learning outcomes and objectives aligned with city strategies
  • Conduct and analyze needs assessments to determine course design elements
  • Write scripts for video and audio content
  • Ensure consistency and equity aligned with city policy and practice
  • Cultivate, foster, and maintain positive working relationships with managers, supervisors, employees, and other stakeholders to gain their cooperation and support for assigned projects
  • Analyze, update, and refine existing learning content and materials to maintain industry best practice standards
  • Keep current instructional design and technology
  • Design and develop online, in person and virtual instructor led courses and other learning materials (job aids, microlearning, facilitation materials).
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
  • Conduct research and collaborates with subject matter experts
  • Present findings and recommendations to Director to gain support and approval of proposed learning experiences
  • Develop and edit learning content and materials in compliance with department design standards
About You
Our Ideal candidate has the following skills or experience:
  • Experience with Articulate Storyline and Adobe Suite
  • Self-directed in the creation, review, and collaboration on assigned projects or course development
  • Ability to skillfully apply industry-standard instructional design practices and creativity to develop engaging learning experiences in several modalities, including instructor-led, eLearning, blended, and online.
  • Basic understanding of ROI strategies

  • Education/Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education
  • Experience: Two (2) years of experience in a learning and development environment
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field
The City and County of Denver utilizes a hybrid model workplace that balances the responsibilities of public service with the benefits of a flexible work environment. Employees work where needed, at a city site and/or in the field at least three days a week and telecommute at a designated workplace within the State of Colorado the remaining days.
