About us
Our mission isto become the de facto way people learn foreign languages. We begin by teaching the next billion people English and Spanish.
English is the global language of business, culture, and communication, and over 1.5 billion people around the world are actively trying to learn right now. Others dream of communicating with the half-billion native Spanish speakers across the globe. The problem is that it's nearly impossible to learn tospeaka language without constant access to a speaking partner. Grammar and vocab apps don't really help – you need to actuallyconversewith someone.
Speak is on a journey to fix this. We're creating an AI-powered experience that replicates the flow of a conversation,withoutneeding a human on the other end. The goal is to make it radically more accessible to be able to have conversations in a foreign language and eventually help hundreds of millions of people gain fluency who otherwise wouldn't be able to.
We started on this journey over four years ago and we've still got a long ways to go. We're thoughtfully adding new team members only when we think they can truly play a big role in our mission.
Speak is currently live in South Korea where we have quickly grown to become the top grossing education app in the country. We recently launched in Japan as well and are expanding to more markets in the coming months. The company is well funded, raising a recent Series B backed by investors like OpenAI, Founders Fund, Y Combinator, Khosla Ventures, Lachy Groom, Josh Buckley, and others. We’re a team of just under 40 based primarily in SF, Seoul, and Ljubljana.
About the Role
As a Senior Technical Recruiter at Speak, you will drive the Company’s talent acquisition strategy for our growing teams across Product and Engineering, you’ll partner with hiring managers and the recruiting team to develop, drive, and manage sourcing/recruiting strategies for our technical positions. In addition, you will assist in developing and promoting our culture internally and externally. Above all, you will be responsible for attracting and hiring Speak’s most important asset – its people!
At Speak You Will
- Communicate with candidates professionally and be immediately responsive
- Promote our Culture and entrepreneurship principles and use creativity to attract and market the Company to qualified and strong candidates
- Work withhiring managers to better understand each team’s needs and screen incoming applicants quickly and effectively
- Support and develop and execute creative recruiting efforts and events; including informational sessions, recruitment mixers and other activities that promote Speak’s recruiting and outreach efforts
- Proactively source active and passive candidates through employee referrals, networking, internal databases, and innovative research tactics
- Manage and drive the full recruitment life cycle by sourcing, reviewing resumes, coordinating screenings and interviews, and assisting in determining the suitability of applicants in various departments for employment.
What We Look For
- Must be able to multi-task and manage a robust/full pipeline with efficiency and constant attention
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Considerable skill in interviewing and negotiation techniques
- Experience managing candidate pipelines
- 5+ years of experience recruiting and sourcing engineers
- High level of interpersonal skills and strong ability to engage both active and passive candidates
- Meticulous attention to detail and organizational skills
- Knowledge of an Applicant Tracking System, Google Suite, Notion
