Overview
Position Summary:
The Senior Vice President of Store Operations is responsible for effectively driving best in class results and positive change through the development and implementation of stores and field management strategies, processes and best practices. Provides strategic planning, direction and leadership for Burlington’s Store Operations initiatives ensuring they successfully drive short- and long-term business objectives. Manages timelines and action plans related to all initiatives, inclusive of change management. Specific areas of responsibility include labor forecasting, scheduling/staffing models, store communications, customer service best practices, store initiatives, expense management and overall operating standards for the entire stores’ organization.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Direct and motivate a high performing team comprised of corporate office and field-based leadership and team members. Develop strong partnerships and collaborate with the Field, Distribution Center and Corporate Support leadership to improve store-impacted execution. Identify opportunities within the stores and develop tactical solutions to positively impact sales and/or bottom-line store profitability. Create a team culture focused on collaboration, open dialogue and positive associate engagement.
- Ensure facilities maintenance is a priority for the store leadership teams; ensuring high standards of store environment are maintained for both associates and customers.
- Collaborate on annual budgets, forecasts and sales reports.
- Develop and retain top talent to deliver objectives and support the growth of the organization.
- Lead organization-wide, strategic initiatives that involve cross-functional steering committees comprised of senior leaders that drive consistent execution of operational strategies.
- Lead the overall Customer Service efforts for the entire company; leveraging existing best practices and developing “best-in-class” strategic plan to improve the customer experience.
- Provide leadership and structure for stores’ operations team that encompasses the mission and core values of the company through the development of trust and respect among peers and staff, building strong teams and partnerships, and driving results.
- Control store expenses through a team that budgets, forecasts, and tightly manages all store expenses including payroll and non-payroll.
- Effectively elevate the level of talent on the team through effective performance management processes, growth and development, coaching and support.
- Coordinate store/market visits with field leadership team to observe and identify effectiveness of key operational strategies.
- Leverage relationships with senior field leadership to influence operational execution at the store level.
- Ensure proper channels of communication exist between the retail support staff and the corporate office.
- Partner with central and field leadership teams to better understand current operational practices, level of execution and opportunities for process improvement.
- Develop consistent improvements to stores’ labor forecasting methods that positively impact the customer experience while maintaining expense controls.
- Implement improved processes and management methods to generate higher ROI and workflow optimization
Education and Qualifications:
- BA/MBA or Masters in related field, or Bachelor’s degree in Finance
Experience:
- 10+ years of experience in Store Operations for large retail organization
- 5+ years supervisory experience is required
- 3+ years retail industry experience is preferred
- 5+ years high level project management or management consulting experience
Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
- Strong attention to detail
- Successful experience supporting or leading multiple projects
- Must be a self-motivated, collaborative team player
- Demonstrated experience communicating effectively with diverse participants and customers
- Demonstrated expertise and success in implementing effective internal associate communication plans
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build trust with business partners
- Advanced knowledge of store operations
- Strong PC skills in Microsoft Office suite
