Vice President Fleet Operations & Maintenance North East Region
Elizabeth, NJ
The Vice President (VP) of Fleet Operations & Maintenance is responsible for the oversight of the day-to-day operations throughout the Northeast. This position will provide strategic direction and support to full service fleet operations, establish and maintain KPIs and drive a productive work environment with clear and precise guidelines and standard operating procedures. Additionally, the VP of Fleet Operations & Maintenance will provide directions for employee enhancement, effectively establish objectives and performance standards regarding evaluations, strengths & weaknesses, attendance, conduct and technological skills and will drive change and encourage growth to achieve our goals.
This position does require travel to the various operations in the Northeast that are under the leadership of this position; which depending on the domicile can be done predominately by car.
Major Responsibilities:
- Work with the COO on new business and acquisition opportunities.
- This business leader will provide oversight of contract maintenance and full service lease operations in the Northeast as well as support dedicated contract carriage operations.
- Provide inspirational leadership and overall management of the logistics operations.
- Partner closely with the senior management team to address strategic, tactical, and operating issues in a forward-thinking manner.
- Oversee operations to ensure efficiencies and delivery of quality transportation solutions.
- Provide professional management and leadership to the company, including mentoring and developing key management members.
- Play an important role in cultivating and managing major accounts, interacting regularly with key customers.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Monitor and oversee labor, materials and overhead expenses for all departments to identify trends and develop improvement plans to increase productivity, profitability, on time performance, and employee morale
- Lead negotiations and annual equipment spec reviews.
- Make recommendations how to best leverage new and emerging technology
- Develop, coach and lead Fleet Maintenance and Transportation Operations teams and strategic vendor/supplier partners in anticipation/response to business environment dynamics.
- Serve as a mentor to employees by creating a work environment characterized by a free exchange of ideas, teaching and learning from each other
- Implement suggestions that improve or change processes in support of the companys growth objectives
- Optimize preventative maintenance program for the purpose of maximizing vehicle uptime while minimizing cost
- Lead and develop a team of field-based logistics and transportation managers while leveraging shared support functions such as Safety & Training, Asset Management, and Compliance.
- Ensure Best-In-Class operational performance. Measure actual to expected performance and take actions as appropriate to achieve desired outcomes.
- Manage fleet teams to continually improve field management in fleet maintenance including equipment procurement, maintenance, repair, and disposal.
- Oversee to ensure all employees adhere to creating a safe workplace by following all corporate safety guidelines and protocol
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Oversee to ensure the maintenance of corporate disciplines, company policies and procedures to create a productive, organized, clean, and safe environment
- Ensure standard operating procedures are being adhered to
- Research, identify and present ideas/suggestions that support cost reductions while assuring quality & on-time products that meet our fleets needs
The ideal candidate has:
- 15+ years of experience in the transportation and logistics industry, with an emphasis on trucking and or fleet maintenance operations.
- Demonstration in building high-performing, customer-focused teams that deliver meaningful results.
- Strong analytic and financial acumen, demonstrated experience in budgeting, and extensive P&L management experience.
- Excellent organization skills, proven written and verbal communication skills.
- Interpersonal competencies, including trust, integrity, adaptability, leadership, ability to motivate, coach and mentor
- Well versed & up to date with DOT, OSHA & FMCSA regulations relating to fleet operations and maintenance.
- Possess experience in building strategic and operational plans that deliver results over multiple cycles.
- Experience with all aspects of operational start ups
- Advanced level skills with Microsoft Suite applications.
- Possess proven track record in leading operations through rapid growth and delivering significant results.
