Description:

Pure Power Engineering seeks a highly experienced and forward-thinking leader with experience developing, implementing, running, & leading the project management operations of a growing engineering firm. The ideal candidate will balance day-to-day management of the engineering teams executing the work, while looking to the future and building processes & capabilities to enable continued growth (doubling in size every 3 years).

This role leads initiatives across Engineering & Project Management teams to ensure a high degree of collaboration and consistency, with clear lines of communication and clearly aligned goals. Candidate will direct project management operations, while collaborating with executives, finance, HR, and sales teams. They will report directly to the CEO and President of the company.

Pure Power is an engineering firm specializing in designing big, challenging, and high-profile Solar PV systems. As a full-service engineering firm, we create the electrical and structural drawings and calculation packages for bidding, permits and construction, as well as supporting the lead up to the full engineering drawings, primarily interconnection support and electrical/structural feasibility studies.

Candidate’s Previous Experience:

Candidate can demonstrate experience and abilities for the following:

  • Involvement with rolling out 3rd party engineering software products or relationships.
  • A solid technical foundation. You feel comfortable diving into details and interacting with engineers at all levels of seniority as required.
  • Soft Skills: Exceptional leadership qualities, including motivation, conflict-management, & high EQ.
  • Leadership in an engineering firm, personally supporting a team of 250+ people.
  • A successful track record in setting priorities; keen analytic, organization and complex problem-solving skills which support and enable sound decision making, with the desire to brainstorm future-thinking ideas.
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills with the ability to convey technical complexity to non-technical team members.
  • Managing project management operations of an engineering firm, supporting oversight of high number of projects.
  • Excellent project management and organization skills.
  • Ability to unlock insights into the organization’s capacity and demand, managing risks, and providing data informed analyses and issue resolution.
  • Managing nationally distributed teams and functions.
  • Balancing the coordination of fast-paced daily priorities with important, longer-term strategic efforts.
  • Energized by change and change management. Ready to bring in new ideas and fresh perspectives on how we approach our work from initiation to execution.
  • Coaching and giving feedback, developing employees’ hard and soft skills.
  • Assisting HR with hiring, developing, and retaining top talent.
  • Minimum of 15 years of relevant work experience, including 5+ years in a senior management role supporting teams of 250+.

Responsibilities

General

  • Sets the tone for day-to-day inner workings, manages expectations of internal teams and client, and ultimately ensures a positive, productive atmosphere.
  • Senior leader overseeing a significant portion of the company from a process, operations, and people management perspective.
  • Provide leadership in a manner which will continue to ensure a cohesive and collaborative environment consistent with PPE’s culture & values.

Project Management Oversight – Standardize processes and ensure consistency across project management operations such as:

  • Billing, Scope Creep, Change Orders.
  • Scoping and Staffing – Ensuring we have the right people and the right action plan in place for success.
  • Delegation (in-house & externally).
  • Scheduling & resource management.
  • Developing project budgets & prices.
  • Time & Budget Management - help model and train their team to identify and escalate issues to mitigate financial risk.
  • Cross-team & department collaboration & communication.
  • Reporting.

Strategy

  • Define/refine operational KPIs that drive bottom line growth; drive accountability of performance against metrics.
  • Develop short and long-term strategic plans and share ownership of performance against those plans.
  • Provide strategic input to the leadership team.

Driving Execution

  • Developing, implementing, and overseeing project management excellence across the organization.
  • Set priorities, gather quantitative and qualitative data, and review to guide decisions.
  • Drive the team’s project management practices in a way that ensures project profitability & best-in-class service.

Process & Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

  • Plan, develop, launch, and train new SOPs.
  • Provide mentorship on the governance of all projects managed by the Project Management teams (i.e., ensuring compliance with firm’s standards AND client standards)
  • Implement cross-functional standard operating procedures (SOP).
  • Hold engineering teams accountable for following SOPs.
  • These exist but require a refreshed perspective to ensure all teams understand that strong standards lead to success. We need consistency and rigor, but also the ability to think creatively about improvements.

Communication

  • Establish an effective daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual meeting Rhythm to keep everyone in the loop.
  • Maintain clear communications with staff regarding operational practices, goals and objectives, & performance.
  • Liaison between the President and Team Leads while maintaining a clear organizational reporting structure detailing the relationships and responsibilities of all departments and positions consistent with the strategic growth of the Company, while holding the team accountable for execution.

Cross Function Collaboration

  • Work with sales team to understand sales performance and forecasts and ensure manpower is available to complete projects with a focus on customer service and quality.
  • Collaborate with the operations, accounting, and business development team leads, sharing knowledge and resources.
  • Ensure seamless communication and clearly defined teamwork across departments.

Reporting

  • Develop and implement processes to monitor and track overall project and portfolio status.
  • Analyze a variety of operational reports to identify trends in all areas of the business to include market trends, project & financial reports, employee staffing levels, and organizational growth.

Training/Coaching

  • Observe managers’ performance using qualitative and quantitative measures.
  • Mentoring and training for all levels of PM staff and in all aspects of their function but as importantly, growing our team into strong leaders.
  • This includes talent acquisition, performance management activities, and ongoing career development.
  • Identify high performing staff members and provide career path and advancement plans.
  • Helping to expand the size and capabilities of the teams by building, training, and developing a team of A players in all levels of the engineering teams.
  • Develop training programs for hard & soft skills.
Requirements:

Preferred experience

  • 15+ years at a consulting engineering firm. Experience with a Solar or MEP firm is a plus, but not required.
  • 10+ years experience in Project Management.
  • Degree in engineering concentration or technical field and/or experience as an engineer or working for an engineering company.

Location

This position will be based out of our exciting downtown Hoboken, NJ Headquarters with the flexibility to work a hybrid in-office and remotely weekly schedule. We are next to public transportation options from NYC and Northern NJ. We also provide a parking spot for the days when an employee wishes to drive to the office and for those that utilize public transportation, we will cover the costs associated with traveling to and from the office.

Salary Description
