Director of Sales


The Director, Pet Specialty Sales & Business Development will be responsible for the execution of our B2B Pet Specialty Business Development, specifically to build a pipeline of new business in the Pet Specialty and Shelter channels, expand distribution, and achieve annual revenue and profitability goals.


The successful candidate will be the key contributor in developing and executing Pet Specialty Business-to-Business strategic management by directing and executing activities focusing on driving real and demonstrable financial value. In addition, the successful candidate will increase engagement within the Pet Specialty and Shelter channels to increase awareness and familiarity to expand sales and market share. Other key areas of responsibility include creating, adopting, directing, and monitoring standard operating processes, developing, negotiating and managing contracts and compliance, identifying opportunities for growth, and ensuring flawless and timely implementation.


What you’ll do:


  • Leads and directs the team in the development of strategic Annual Business-to-Business plans to achieve business objectives. Accountable for facilitating and leading business reviews with assigned accounts to ensure ongoing business alignment and achievement of annual review goals.
  • Assess and determine impacts from projects, programs, and other activations either Embark Veterinary or one of its key strategic partners may desire to implement.
  • Responsible for achieving revenue and profitability targets. Responsible for updating sales projections and forecasting revenue, in line with projected income in the Pet Specialty and Shelter Channels.
  • Responsible for leading and developing a team of qualified, highly motivated personnel. Guides all performance management activity to improve competencies and develop personnel for increased responsibility.
  • Identify new partners and channels to expand share and sales.
  • Works within a matrix environment among marketing, product, engineering, science, finance and logistics teams to develop, influence, and implement initiatives and innovative solutions for external partners.
  • Assists the Vice President in the development, communication, and implementation of effective growth strategies.
  • Builds and maintains strong working relationships with C-Level leaders of key B2B partners and others as required to ensure success.
  • Communicates clearly (verbally and in writing) with appropriate levels internally and externally in order to influence multiple audiences.
  • Developing and implementing National and Regional Accounts business plans
  • Works closely with leadership to create effective operational management, including defined SOPs, metrics and KPIs to manage performance and achieve revenue goals.


What experience we’re looking for:


  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities and meet tight timelines in a highly competitive marketplace.
  • Maintains knowledge of the trends within the industry and product categories.
  • Travel up to 60% of the time
  • Demonstrated understanding of business processes, forecasting / financial modeling, contract management and project management.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or advanced degree strongly preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills that deliver business results.
  • 10+ years of management and leadership experience, developing sales teams preferred.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Contract management and compliance experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated strong negotiation and contracting skills with a record of accomplishment in the Pet Specialty Channel.
  • 10+ years of Pet Specialty business development or complex, multi-unit customer management experience, animal health or similar industry preferred.
  • Experience in developing operational excellence procedures and processes across all functions.
  • Passionate and eager to contribute to our wonderfully unique Embark culture
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills, including the ability to effectively write and deliver presentations to professionals at all levels.
  • Have a masterful understanding and strong ongoing relationships within the Pet Specialty Industry specifically within the top 25 pet store chains (PetSmart, Petco, Pet Supplies Plus, Petsense, Hollywood Feed, etc.) and the major pet distributors in the US.
  • Demonstrated c-suite business acumen and superior influencing skills.
  • Demonstrated success in leadership roles, both in direct and matrixed environments.

Salary Range: $1136,000- $187,000
