Position Summary


The Regional Vice President, Health Informatics will be the physician champion of Clinical Information Technology for their respective (Northern/Central/Southern) Region reporting to the SVP & Chief Health Information Officer (CHIO) of RWJBH. The Regional Vice President serves both to help achieve optimal clinical integration of IT in their region, and assist the CHIO in operationalizing the enterprise clinical IT strategy for RWJBH.


This role will be responsible for providing local leadership and support for advancement and optimization of the EMR, as well as support existing systems and technologies for hospitals, practices, service lines, and population health management. This role will also be responsible for supporting the development, implementation and use of clinical information systems to assist clinicians in the delivery of the safest, highest quality and most effective patient care.


This role will be 80% dedicated to Regional Vice President, Clinical Informatics duties and 20% will be expected to maintain a clinical practice in their physician specialty at an RWJBH Site.


Principal Duties And Responsibilities


  • Builds relationships and credibility with physicians to gain support of information technology initiatives.
  • Maintains awareness of existing and emerging technology, regulatory, and market factors
  • Is highly responsive to user needs, including training, to assure widespread acceptance and proper use of the clinical systems
  • Supports the RWJBH CHIO
  • Supports various regulatory and compliance activities such as TJC, HIPAA, Promoting Interoperability, and State/National regulations
  • Acts as an advocate for the protection of patient privacy and the security of protected health information.
  • Serves as the physician champion for clinical IT in their RWJBH Region
  • Supports the CMO s and service lines in clinical integration of IT for the medical staff, hospital, and all other clinical sites both inpatient and ambulatory
  • Works in concert with IT and departmental quality efforts to design and implement systems supporting patient care, research activities, and quality improvement.
  • Assists development of clinical decision support for patient care and research as well as the design of clinical system features supporting protocol and pathway management, use of the system to leverage the clinicians' time, and maximize communication with clinical staff.
  • Serves on the appropriate committees as directed by the CHIO
  • Demonstrates optimal and compliant use of clinical technology in practice such as CPOE and decision support

Education And Experience


  • A minimum of 5 years experience as a physician informatics leader with progressive leadership responsibilities in a complex, multi-specialty healthcare environment
  • Fellowship Training in Medical Informatics, Degree in Computer Science/Engineering, or Masters in Clinical Informatics preferred
  • Licensed and board certified MD/DO with recent clinical experience and ability to maintain an active practice at RWJBH
  • Board Certification in Clinical Informatics, or eligible to complete board certification within 2 years
