Our company is a well-known manufacturer of outdoor power and trailer equipment – woodchipper, utility trailer, stump grinder, snowplow, winch, etc. We cater to the residential, prosumer and light professional markets, partnering with major blue-chip corporations in the retail industry with presence in both the US and Canada.
The company recently received private equity investment. With the anticipated commercial growth, we are looking to add an HR Director to the team. This role will be a key member of the leadership team and will be heavily involved in setting and executing the HR strategy to help us grow the business.
We are looking for someone who is exceptional, ambitious and detail oriented. This individual brings a proven track record of growing and leading an HR Department, and thrives in a hands-on, fast-paced and agile environment.
As HR Director, you will be responsible for the total company’s full cycle HR and people management activities, including recruitment, employee engagement and retention, talent and performance management, compensation, payroll and benefits management, employee training and development, and improving company-wide policies, processes and procedures.
This role works closely across all functions to ensure consistency and achieve organizational excellence in all aspects of people management.
Responsibilities
- Provides learning and mentoring to the HR team
- Manage performance-related issues (e.g., disciplinary action and termination)
- Design and implement performance review process; work with leadership team to develop and monitor performance goals, compensation plans, promotion and succession plans, etc.
- Actively promote company visions and values, and ensure a culture of transparency and open communication
- Identify and implement improvements to existing company policies, processes and procedures to support growth and business initiatives
- Lead full-cycle recruitment process, including drafting job postings, advertising, screening, creating interview guides, scheduling and conducting interviews, extending offers, and coordinating the onboarding process
- Regularly report on HR metrics to address turnover, open roles and hiring, performance management metrics, employee engagement metrics, etc.
- Educate business on legal practices, workplace behaviors and provide support as needed
- Design and implement initiatives to improve employee engagement and increase productivity
- Ensure business operation is aligned with all applicable regulatory requirements
- Manage payroll and group benefit plans
Qualifications
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills
- Experience building and implementing projects from the ground up and a passion for excellence and continuous improvement
- Organized and detail oriented
- Well-versed in labor laws and regulations in both the US and Canada
- Process driven with ability to deploy, maintain, and improve internal processes and tools
- Ability to prioritize and manage conflicting priorities
- Strong problem solving and decision-making skills
- Experience working with a diverse workforce (production and office)
- 5+ years of progressive HR experience working in a fast-paced environment
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in human resources or management
- Highly effective communication skills (written and verbal)
- Working knowledge of HR management tools (e.g., ADP)
- Demonstrated leadership skills to engage employees at all levels, facilitate teamwork, and resolve conflict
- Experience working in a multi-site company with the ability to travel to other facilities
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
