United Way of Brevard, Florida (UWB) was established in 1957 by a group of caring and committed individuals who wanted to help those who were in need in their local community. Our work focuses on the building blocks of a good life – Education, Income and Health. Our community wins when kids succeed in school, adults can secure a good job, manage their finances, and provide a healthy environment for their families. Together, through United Way Worldwide and United Way Florida, the contributions of thousands of individual donors become a force for change in the community.
- Develop financial resources and identify human service priorities and solutions.
- Provide for accountability, distribution of resources, and responses to community needs and issues.
- Carry out the programs, goals, objectives, policies and decisions of the Board of Directors.
- Accountable to the Board of Directors through the Chair, and has the authority, within the framework of the UWB’s policies and bylaws, to take necessary action to achieve the goals of the organization.
- Mobilize community resources to improve the quality of life in Brevard County.
- Maintain operational and fiscal integrity of the organization within the directives and policies set by the Board of Directors.
- Oversee the overall administrative management and daily operations of the organization, to include all activities in accordance with UWB policies and Bylaws.
- Maintain United Way’s leadership role among constituencies, including donors, decision makers, agencies, private and public institutions.
- Direct financial operations, prepare annual operating budget and accountable for control of these resources once approved.
- Responsible for directing the public relations functions of the agency.
- Promote United Way through community presentations and activities.
- Provide leadership in developing financial resources to help meet the health and human service needs of the community.
- Collaborate and coordinate effective delivery of services with appropriate community committees, boards and councils.
- Recommend changes to existing programs or services and propose implementation of new programs and services to best achieve UWB’s goals and mission.
- Guide the development of, and oversee the implementation and execution of, UWB’s strategic plan and work plan.
- Builds and maintains relationships with members and leaders of the community.
- Ensure compliance with applicable duties and obligations the agency may be subject to, including any legal, tax, regulatory or reporting obligations and compliance with membership requirements of United Way Worldwide and United Way of Florida.
- Ensure that UWB’s facilities, property and equipment are properly maintained.
- Provide leadership and guidance to the Board of Directors and carry out Board directives and policies.
- Develop and recommend to the Board of Directors plans for the development of UWB programs and services.
- Administers an orientation program for the Board of Directors.
- Work with the Board to develop policies on issues affecting UWB operations and the agency’s approach to best meeting and serving the community’s needs and issues.
- Maintain appropriate transparency, communication and relations with the Board of Directors and its committees and keep them informed.
- Ensure that goals of inclusiveness and diversity among staff and volunteers are met.
- Foster and maintain a professional and equitable work environment and culture.
- Supervise and direct staff in the performance of their duties.
- Chief administrative responsibility for ensuring compliance with human resource laws and codes, and with UWB’s personnel policies.
- Provide overall leadership and direction for the personnel and human resource functions of UWB, including active participation in or approval of key personnel actions and appropriate delegation of management functions and responsibilities to properly trained and qualified personnel.
- Develop, implement and maintain strategies to increase employee and volunteer engagement.
- Develop and implement an effective performance review process.
- Demonstrated success with grant writing, monitoring, compliance and reporting through relevant supporting agencies.
- Working knowledge of non‐profit fiscal management.
- Bachelor’s degree in businesses, finance, human services, or related field required. Advanced degree in business, finance, or nonprofit management preferred.
- Experience in collaboration, negotiation, and United Way skills and systems preferred but not required.
- Demonstrated success with fundraising and management of fund distribution.
- 5 or more years leading nonprofit organizations or programs, including working with a Board of Directors.
- 5 or more years of team leadership, including hiring and performance management.
- Proven track record in recruiting, developing, mentoring and retaining high performing, mission-driven, and results-oriented teams,
- Convey a professional and positive image and attitude.
- Collaborate well with others and ability to develop and maintain smooth and constructive relationships with colleagues and outside agencies, organizations, and individuals.
- Extensive local travel.
- Some evening and weekend work required.
- Demonstrated ability in written and oral communication.
- Ability to analyze, comprehend and handle detailed, complex concepts and problems while balancing, prioritizing and managing multiple projects and deadlines.
