The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Vice President, Controller to join our team, reporting directly to the Chief Accounting Officer (CAO). As the Controller, you will play a crucial role in managing the financial operations of our organization. You will advise and influence the company's accounting functions, maintain accounting principles and procedures, and ensure the accuracy of financial statements and reporting. In addition, you will provide financial information to leadership, analyze financial data, and prepare comprehensive financial reports.

Responsibilities

• Provide key support for external audits, including quarterly reviews, year-end audits, and ad hoc regulatory filing support
• Coordinate the year-end audit and support the preparation of audited financial statements in accordance with US GAAP.
• Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of financial information.
• Provide strategic analysis to drive improved decision-making across the organization.
• Ensure the promotion of Canopy’s people management strategy to attract, retain and motivate the highest caliber of skilled professionals and a diverse workforce, and build a strong team of leaders and mix of talent that aligns with the organizational needs and internal audit vision of “Trusted Advisor”
• Provide guidance on accounting matters, financial systems, internal/external control guidelines, analysis, and reporting.
• Collaborate with Senior Management team to develop, identify, measure, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs).
• Oversee and support a team, providing dynamic leadership, training, and mentoring to create an environment of trust and positivity.
• Serve as a leader within our matrix structure to enable efficient and effective collaboration and set the tone for how the broader organization operates.
• Perform other related duties as required or assigned.
• Manage all accounting operations, including the review of journal entries, account reconciliations, statutory reporting, and preparation of monthly financial statements.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and professional standards.
• Engage collaboratively with the CAO, CFO and Finance leadership team.
• Support projects and transformational initiatives early to provide a proactive perspective on governance, risk management and controls.

Experience

• Public company experience a plus
• Ability to produce accurate results within a fast-paced environment.
• University degree in Business/Accounting, with an advanced degree or professional accounting designation (CPA strongly preferred)
• Minimum of 15 years of experience in a multi-national organization
• Demonstrated ability to lead a team of finance professionals in a complex, dynamic, fast-paced environment
• Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to mentor and develop a team.
• Exceptional attention to detail, with the ability to follow standard procedures.
• Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional departments (internal and external).
• Advanced knowledge of MS Office and Excel.
• Extensive knowledge of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Experience overseeing audits performed by external audit firms.
• Proficiency in all accounting and financial cycles, including financial analysis, forecasting, and budgeting.
