Resource Specialist for the Digital Repository
The University of Southern California (USC), founded in 1880, is located in the heart of downtown L.A. and is the largest private employer in the City of Los Angeles. We are currently seeking a full-time Resource Employee to join the USC Digital Repository within the USC Libraries. The resource employee will assist with the digitization, preservation, and quality assurance of new and existing collections archived within the Digital Repository. The position would inspect, process, and restore/repair audiovisual materials and operate the equipment and software required to handle the materials, with an emphasis on quality assurance and quality control of digital video and audio files.
The successful candidate should have some video post-production experience; basic knowledge of video, film, and audio digitization and digital file formats; and some experience utilizing digital technologies for digital preservation and access.
This is a resource position with an anticipated end date of September 30, 2023. Resource workers are NOT eligible for USC benefits.
The hourly rate range for this position is $26.00 - $28.00. USC has 23 libraries and information centers and the USC Digital Library.
Qualifications:
- Familiarity with motion picture film and video/audio tape formats
- Knowledge of digitization techniques and digital file formats
- Required:

- Knowledge of digitization techniques and digital file formats
- Proficiency with Windows 10 and 11 Operating Systems, Microsoft Office software suite

- Knowledge of asset management systems and video quality assurance workflows
- Preferred:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Film/Television; Production; Media and Communication; or related field

Job Accountabilities:
- Receive, inventory, catalog, store all new acquisitions according to professional standards.
- Reconcile and organize data and reports concerning the location and condition of the collection.
- Perform other duties as assigned or requested. The university reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.
- Assist with fulfillment of access requests and respond to requests for information concerning the collection.
- Implement operational procedures for the collection.
- Use accepted methods of protecting and preserving delicate documents, and video and digital materials.
- Stay informed of new developments and technologies.
- Provide guidance and direction to student workers.
- Ensure compliance with department and university policies.
