Description


Reporting to the Senior Director of Operations, the People Operations Manager (Manager) is a full-time, exempt position that oversees the people operations functions of CNPS, including employee recruiting, hiring, training, retention, engagement, well-being, and growth; with a lens toward greater diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice (DEIJ). Other duties include managing and administering employee compensation, benefits, and legal compliance, as well as implementing strategies for employee development and retention.


What You'll Do


  • Comply with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; review and modify policies and practices as required to maintain compliance.
  • Oversee HR tools and platforms (e.g., HR information system, payroll, timekeeping, performance evaluation, retirement, benefits.).
  • Chair and serve on committees and working groups where HR representation adds value.
  • Works closely with the Senior Director of Operations to develop, administer and improve the people operations functions.
  • Champion collaborative cross-functional relationships with other teams and hiring managers; understand skills and competencies required for job openings and ensure successful onboarding and offboarding of employees.
  • Protect employee's privacy and the organization's reputation by keeping information confidential.
  • Develop human resources solutions by collecting and analyzing information, recommending courses of action; develops, implements, and evaluates the total rewards strategy to ensure inclusivity and competitiveness.
  • Oversee payroll processing and benefits administration (e.g., health, dental, and life insurance, retirement, leave).
  • Work to enhance engagement, productivity, and well-being of employees.
  • Develop, implement and interpret goals, objectives, policies, and procedures for the effective management of the human resources function and team.
  • Provide exceptional customer service.
  • Develop and oversee initiatives that broaden outreach to diverse, qualified candidates and implement best practices in inclusive hiring processes.
  • Collaborate with and supervise the People Operations Coordinator.
  • Update job knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law; participate in educational opportunities; read professional publications; maintain personal networks; participate in professional organizations.
  • Implement human resource programs by providing human resources services, including talent acquisition, staffing, employment processing, compensation, health and welfare benefits, training and development, records management, safety and health, succession planning, employee relations and retention, labor law compliance, and labor relations.
  • Improve manager and employee performance by identifying and clarifying problems; evaluating potential solutions; implementing selected solutions; coaching and counseling managers and employees.
  • Prepare executive and management reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends.


Who You Are


  • Six to eight years of experience in people operations or human resource management, with a minimum of 2 years of management experience; natural leader, coach, and mentor with the ability to foster relationships with people from all levels.
  • Experience using HRIS, Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS), Performance Management Systems and processing payroll.
  • Clear understanding and working knowledge of the critical components of a successful human resource department, including employment law, methods and techniques used in recruitment and selection, performance management, resolving conflict, having difficult conversations, employee engagement, training and development, maintaining employee files, benefits, compensation, and managing operational budgets.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, presentation and consulting skills; demonstrated ability to work as a senior lead across all levels of an organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to research and analyze problems at a senior level, providing feedback, guidance, and direction.
  • Discretion, sensitivity, and confidentiality; demonstrated ability to actively listen, analyze and inform appropriately while maintaining the required sensibilities in handling confidential information.
  • Develop and articulate solutions that contribute to a more diverse and inclusive workplace and community; demonstrated ability integrating DEIJ into operations.
  • Strong problem solving, reporting and analytical skills, attention to detail, accuracy and precision; highly skilled in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.


Nice to Have


  • SHRM or HRCI certified.
  • Degree in HR Management, Organizational Behavior, or another related field.
  • Fluency in Spanish or other languages spoken in California.
  • Knowledge of or genuine interest in CNPS, California native plants, conservation, and the nexus between people and nature.

Additional Information


  • Periodic travel to locations throughout California will be required. Work travel is reimbursed.
  • Remote and/or flex schedules will be considered. Successful candidate must reside in California.
  • Office work schedule is generally eight hours a day, Monday through Friday.
  • This position will remain open until filled.
