Job Title: Director CMI – Shopper Insights & West Coast Brands
Division: CDMO
Location: Los Angeles, West Coast L’Oréal Office
Reports To: AVP CMI – Shopper Insights, Beauty Trends, West Coast Brands

What You Will Do
  • Marketing Mix/Activation/Retail research
  • Advertising Creation and Measurement – TV, Print, Digital/Content testing
  • Consumer/Category Deep Dives and Targeting Profiling Analysis
  • Budget and expectations management along with agency resource management
  • Panier Validation – Concept Testing, Fulfillment, Bases
  • Champion + manage daily CMI requirements for West Coast Brands within PPD, CPD, Luxe organizations (1 point of contact for all WC brand insights).
  • Shopper Insights discovery through quantitative and qualitative methods:
  • Management of proprietary shopper panel tools + retail shop-alongs; and
  • Elevate the work of the Shopper Insights métier @ LUSA, supporting across retail & shopper-focused projects and working to translate consumer insights into actionable recommendations to help optimize the shopping experience across touchpoints.
  • Consumer decision journey research (O+O);
  • West Cost Brand CMI management of methods to assist in Operational + Local DMI:
  • Shopper perception + category decision tree/market structure mapping;
  • Close Partnership with Category Metier teams (Skin, Hair, Cosmetics leaders)
  • Shelving, merchandising, and assortment tests;
Candidate’s Success Driven In-part Through
  • Balancing daily project needs while delivering against meaningful strategic priorities.
  • Breaking down divisional boundaries to penetrate and influence the broader group
  • Driving shopper insight-based recommendations which deliver category and brand growth objectives, across the Divisions. Becoming a customer expert.
  • Becoming a trusted strategic partner to bring the voice of the consumer to the L’Oréal WC office.
  • Creating impactful cross-divisional Shopper Insights for greatest exposure and influence.
Shopper Insights
  • Disseminate and animate actionable shopper insights that will drive L’Oreal brand growth, internally and with our customer base.
  • Support in the execution and socialization of the new consumer journey to the organization and retail partners.
  • Fully immerse in the business needs and situations within the Category Management team, becoming a trusted ally and team member.
West Coast Brands
  • Fully immerse into the Brand Teams – both Operational and local DMI. Help manage insight needs across Qual, Quant, and Syndicated methods.
  • Put into action primary research studies and leverage secondary sources along with other team capabilities (One Globe, Mkt Mix, Data Tech….) to efficiently and effectively drive insights and solve for business issues.
Overall
  • Build agency relationships and maximize their operational output and potential, while bringing new innovative tools and methods to the group.
  • Work closely with direct CMI manager for aid in project prioritization, work deliverables, and ongoing coaching/training.
Budget management and project status reporting, all facets of the job.
The Director Will Form Close Partnerships With
  • Outside vendors and agencies
  • Other CDMO e-commerce growth and business accelerator teams who themselves interact with leaders at key retailers
  • Leaders in Category Management, Sales, Brand Marketing, and CMI
  • Leaders in Pulp Riot, NYX, & Urban Decay brands + PPD Academy.
Key customers and retailers (through becoming an integral part of the business teams they support).
Required Qualifications
What We Are Looking For:
  • MBA a plus.
  • Market research (whether custom or syndicated or shopper insights), sales (including field sales and/or category management and/or shopper marketing), and/or marketing (brand management, customer marketing or new product development).
  • Exceptional track record of relationship management, problem solving, and influencing... as they will be working across many unique teams and offices.
  • Aggressive, results orientation; proactive and ‘make it happen’ attitude; team builder; strong listener/communicator (oral, written); ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously; flexible and adaptable (willing to look at things in new, unique ways); strong planner, organizer, and with demonstrated record of bringing a ‘strategy’ to life.
  • Industry background can include mix of traditional CPG and retail assignments (i.e. Sephora, Ulta, Target, Amazon, etc…).

  • Positive approach and transparent with projects/work/plans.
  • Self-starter; one who gets “points on the board” (“drive for results” competency
  • Passion for beauty industry, marketing insights, and innovation (new ideas).
