Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:

The Vice President of Human Resources (HR) is responsible for developing and executing the human resources strategy of the Utah Jazz, Vivint Arena, and related properties. The VP of HR provides strategic guidance and direction to the leadership team, helping to position the organization as an employer of choice within the industry. This position reports to the Chief Experience Officer and will strive to promote initiatives that support programs that enhance the overall employee experience.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead a team in executing all human resources activities including, but not limited to, recruiting, onboarding, compensation management, benefits administration, performance management, professional development, employee data management, employee relations, and employee engagement programs.
  • Provide guidance and input on business unit structures, workforce planning and succession planning.
  • Identify needs and opportunities related to staff education and development and implement employee training initiatives.
  • Collaborate with general counsel, as needed, to manage internal investigations regarding employment law matters.
  • Provide strategic oversight of all employee benefit programs. Partner with insurance brokers, advisors, and vendors to ensure a competitive total rewards package.
  • Evaluate and implement employee relations practices to promote a high level of employee morale, satisfaction, and engagement.
  • Serve as HR team liaison to the NBA, and partner with league representatives to deliver and execute league mandated programs and initiatives, including monthly NBA Team HR calls, Team HR gatherings and league meetings.
  • Operate with an emphasis on safety for employees, teams, and guests.
  • Be a trusted advisor and business partner to the company’s senior leaders, functioning as the expert on human resources and organizational issues and providing guidance on managing complex and sometimes sensitive and confidential employee matters.
  • Partner with the finance department to help establish competitive and equitable pay practices supported by market and industry research.
  • Oversee programs and events that reward employees and support an inclusive and enjoyable company culture.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Monitor budget allocations, expenditures, and related financial activities of the department.
  • Responsible for organizational compliance with federal and state laws pertaining to human resources.
  • Envision and execute strategies for recruiting and retaining high potential employees.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and best practices by attending conferences and educational opportunities and participating in professional organizations.
  • Review and make recommendations to senior leaders for the improvement of human resources policies, procedures, and practices, effectively addressing business needs with innovative solutions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in a human resources role, with at least five years in an HR leadership role.
  • Proficient in Google Suite or related software.
  • Knowledge of employment law and human resources best practices.
  • Experience working with part-time and full-time employees.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills with a high level of empathy and emotional intelligence. Comfortable presenting and mediating issues with colleagues at all levels.
  • SHRM-SCP or SPHR certification preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Proven experience leading and building teams, creating world-class culture, and the ability to inspire trust in confidence with others.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • This person must be able to sit, stand, bend, walk, and climb stairs for long periods of time.
  • This person must be able to observe, inspect, estimate, and assess.
  • This person must be able to lift 20 lbs.
  • This person must be able to communicate and express themselves effectively.
