Job Description
Summary


The Senior Director of Training is responsible for providing leadership and oversight for the training and technical assistance (T/TA) and professional development activities of the NC ECDTL. This leadership team position acts as a subject matter expert for the Center on content related to a wide range of areas supporting birth to five child development, effective teaching and home visiting practices in Head Start/Early Head Start early childhood settings, curriculum and assessment, and workforce priorities for NC ECDTL audiences. The Sr. Director of Training must be passionate about quality adult-child interactions combined with an everyday curiosity on how all children in enrolled in Head Start can thrive. This role requires someone with a zest for seeing the big picture, identifying new opportunities for professional development, along with the ability to still get into the details to bring the vision into reality.


Day to day, the Senior Director, with a team of directors and managers, will lead NCECDTL’s training efforts to identify, develop, and promote the implementation of evidence-based and culturally and linguistically responsive practices across center-based, family child care, and home-based early childhood programs and settings. The Senior Director needs an authoritative and varied subject matter expertise, steeped in Head Start, to oversee the work of NC ECDTL trainers to ensure T/TA, can be effectively delivered, virtually and in-person, on birth to five child development and play-based learning; effective teaching and home visiting practices; adult-child interactions and instructional support; dual language learning; inclusion and disabilities services; adversity responsiveness; equitable learning opportunities; implicit and explicit bias impact on school readiness; curriculum implementation within the various Head Start/Early Head Start program options and settings; transitions, including to kindergarten, promotion of secure parent/child relationships and social and emotional foundations of early learning; using data to individualize, improve practice, and enhance quality to ensure progress for all children; early childhood leadership development; and the use of ongoing professional development, Practice-Based Coaching, and reflective supervision to ensure effective practices.


Additionally, this position acts as the lead point of contact for mobilizing Office of Head Start priorities within the NC ECDTL and ensuring the Center’s T/TA is responsive in meeting the needs of NC ECDTL audiences including the integration of existing DTL resources and products. The Sr. Director also oversees the Center wide content quality assurance processes for Center training and materials as well as trainer coaching efforts. Additionally, this position leads the Center’s work on enhancing the professional development systems for the early childhood workforce development, with a focus on infant and toddler professional development.

Essential Responsibilities


  • Provide leadership on updates needed to Center T/TA efforts based on audience need
  • Oversee and support Center directors in the development of the annual webinar calendar, iPD course catalogue and professional development opportunities
  • Serves as content lead and liaison with the federal project officers on key issues related to NC ECDTL’s scope including Infant Toddler and Workforce issues, Curriculum, CLASS®, and other federal priorities as they arise
  • Provides leadership and oversight to T/TA efforts of the center
  • Act as a thought partner to the Office of Head Start related to early childhood development, teaching and learning
  • Ensures all T/TA materials developed by the center are data/research informed, responsive to DTL audiences and integrates existing DTL materials to support the field
  • Participates on the center leadership and management teams and contributes to the overall management and leadership of the center
  • Oversees the plan for leveraging and expanding the use of Early Educator Central
  • Performs other duties as assigned for the purposes of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the center
  • Oversees organization and facilitation of regular, ongoing training team meetings and communications
  • Contributes to the oversight of the center’s budget
  • Supervise Directors and Sr. Manager in charge of training and technical assistance activities
  • Coordinates with and provides guidance to NC ECDTL partners on the development of T/TA
  • Supports efforts related to the Center’s presence on the ECLKC and OCC websites (as applicable) making connections to DTL T/TA efforts and audience needs
  • Participates in all regularly scheduled center meetings and ACF workgroups
  • Oversees and refine as necessary training development and quality assurance systems
  • Provides training, as needed, at conferences, regional events and other meetings on behalf of the center


Essential Skills & Experience

  • At least 10 years’ experience in early childhood development, birth to five; with strong knowledge and a proven track record in Head Start program development, the Head Start T/TA system, the Head Start Program Performance Standards, Head Start Outcomes Framework, Head Start technical assistance resources on the ECLKC
  • Effective time management skills
  • Strong knowledge of CCDF and public Pre-K programming trends and regulations in states and territories
  • Strong leadership and management skills
  • Strong supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and methodologies
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Excellent oral and communication skills; quick thinker can provide expert-level recommendations orally and written

EDUCATION


Minimum of Master’s degree in Early Childhood or related field required.


Compensation & Benefits


This position's salary is estimated to be mid $125,000s to mid $140,000s depending on experience, geo-location, budget, and other comparable and similarly scoped internal positions. Physical Requirements


While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is frequently required to use finger dexterity and sufficient hand dexterity to use a computer keyboard and be capable of reading a computer screen. Also, they may need to remain seated for extended periods, can perform repetitive motions, and reach for objects. An employee is frequently required to hold a writing instrument, communicate verbally, and hear well enough to detect nuances and receive detailed information. WORKING CONDITIONS


The work conditions described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing this job. Depending on work location, the incumbent will typically work indoors in a heated and air-conditioned office, with a mixture of natural, incandescent, and fluorescent light with low to moderate noise levels or be subject to working conditions conducive to a home environment. When travel is expected, the incumbent will be exposed to outside environmental conditions during those times.
