BCT offers a competitive total compensation package that, for this position, includes base salary with a starting hourly range between $27.00 and $33.00 (negotiable, based on qualifications), along with a generous benefits package. BCT Partners is a US based company and while we encourage a remote workforce, we do require that all employees reside and work within the 50 US states or the District of Columbia.
The Payroll Accountant provides ongoing, prompt, and accurate accounting and administrative assistance to the accounting department and other BCT Partners teams as needed. This includes performing accurate data entry, preparing and maintaining documents and records, preparing bank deposits, general ledger postings and statements, posting and processing journal entries, updating accounts receivable & payable, issuing invoices, and performing reconciliations. The Payroll Accountant will have a strong knowledge of accounting, an attention to details and an ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines.
Key Responsibilities:
Payroll Responsibilities (primary area of responsibility):
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, or year-end calculations of bonuses and other salary-based compensation.
- Determine payroll liabilities by calculating employee federal and state income and social security taxes and employer’s social security, unemployment, and workers compensation payments.
- Review all payroll master file changes (new hires, terminations, pay rate changes, leaves of absences, name changes, etc.) to ensure accuracy with personnel records.
- Communicate payroll deductions to administrators for 401(k) and other pre-taxation savings plans.
- Perform detailed review of payroll provider’s reports to ensure alignment with submitted payroll.
- Maintain payroll operations; follow policies and procedures and recommend changes.
- Prepare reports by compiling summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability, and nontaxable wages.
- Securely store and archive electronic payroll reports and data.
- Accurately maintains payroll information by collecting, calculating, and entering data into the payroll system, as well as retrieving data when necessary.
- Maintain employee confidence and payroll credibility by demonstrating respect, honesty, kindness, and reliability, and maintaining staff privacy.
- Updates payroll records by entering changes in exemptions, insurance coverage, savings deductions, and job title and department/division transfers.
- Resolve payroll discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information.
- Prepare payroll for Director’s review prior to submission to payroll services (payroll providers etc.)
- Reconcile pay rates in the payroll and accounting systems for accuracy.
- Keep information confidential. Provide payroll information to those authorized to receive it; answer questions and fulfill requests.
- Reconciliation of payroll liabilities associated with 3rd party benefit providers to ensure accuracy of amounts paid and owed, including reconciliation of related general ledger balances.
Accounting Responsibilities (only as assigned):
- Provide assistance to company personnel, acting as gatekeeper for the Director of Accounting.
- Work in conjunction with the with the accounting team to support in the billing and accounts receivable and accounts payable areas as assigned by supervisor.
- Inform management and compile reports/summaries on activity areas.
- Provide accounting and clerical support to the accounting department by accurately preparing, entering and maintaining accounting documents and records.
- Research, track and correct accounting or documentation problems and discrepancies
- Reconcile accounts in a timely manner.
Perform other reasonable tasks as assigned that support BCT’s goals and objectives.
Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Able to think critically, exercise sound judgment, ask questions and be open to the input and decisions of others; both independently and collaboratively lead, solve problems, make decisions and manage change.
- Ability to maintain confidential information and use appropriate discretion when interacting and sharing information with others.
- Good interpersonal skills, with the proven ability to collaborate and build relationships with staff, clients, remote colleagues and supervisors, and others.
- Effective written and spoken communication skills.
- At least 3 years proven accounting experience, preferably as an accounts receivable or payable clerk; knowledge of basic accounting procedures and principles; hands-on experience with spreadsheets and financial reports; experience as a payroll clerk or payroll administration desired.
- Undergraduate degree from an accredited university or college is preferred; comparable relevant professional experience may be an alternative to a degree.
- Strong organizational, administrative and process coordination skills, and the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to accurately and efficiently enter data into tables and systems; strong attention to detail with an aptitude for numbers and the ability to understand processes and formulas.
- Computer, Internet and general proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word and PowerPoint; advanced knowledge and experience with Microsoft Excel is required; ability to learn and adapt to accounting, records management and data management software and systems, as needed.
