Position Summary: The General Ledger Accountant is a full-time position and a member of the Finance team. Under the direction of the Vice President of Finance, the General Ledger Accountant is responsible for ensuring that all transactions are properly accounted for and accurately reflect Putnam’s accounting process and procedures.
The General Ledger Accountant position is a full-time, non-exempt position within the Putnam Museum and Science Center. The starting hourly range is $21.00 - $23.00 along with a competitive benefits package.

Essential Job Functions (the following essential job functions describe the general nature of work for this position, but this list is not intended to be an exclusive or all-inclusive inventory of functions)
- Manage grant tracking, reporting and compliance issues.
- Prepare bank deposits according to established fiscal procedures.
- Promote the vision, mission, and strategic objectives of the Putnam Museum and Science Center.
- Manage and work closely with VP of Finance on month-end close process.
- Process various general ledger entries, mostly related to the month-end close including but not limited to: daily sales activity; bank reconciliations; accrued payroll; group insurance; joint memberships; deferred revenue.
- Manage and process Accounts Payable including but not limited to: set up new vendors; maintain W-9 information on vendors and prepare annual 1099s; code and enter invoices into systems and subsequently prepare checks for review; print and file all related reports; handle A/P phone inquiries.
- Maintain various weekly/monthly/bi-monthly spreadsheets including but not limited to: restricted Checking detail; school subsidies; film analysis; gift card reconciliation.
- Manage and process incoming mail for entire organization based on cash handling protocols.
- Process and record daily sales
- Work with Director of Visitor Services to ensure correct reporting of film fees to film companies.
- Serve as back-up for the payroll process to set-up new employees in payroll system, process bi-weekly payroll for all staff – including printing of reports, process bi-weekly online 403(b) remittances.
- Reconcile all asset and liability accounts.
- Prepare monthly financial reports (Operating & Non-Operating Income Statements, Store Financials, and Balance Sheet).
- Manage and process Accounts Receivables including but not limited to: set-up new customers/donors in A/R system; prepare customer/donor invoices using Altru reports and/or through coordination with appropriate staff; process customer/donor payments.
- Assist with the annual budget, annual audit, and annual income tax returns.
- Must be able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously.
- Prepare monthly film reports to submit to AP for timely payment.
- Review revenue account postings that may need to be deferred.

Training and Experience
Minimum of 10 years related work experience required. Non-profit accounting experience is highly desired.
Accounting degree is strongly preferred.
