Job Description

WHO WE ARE

The Humane League (THL) is a global nonprofit ending the abuse of animals raised for food. THL fosters a high-energy culture of teamwork and mission-driven problem solving, and we have earned recognition as Top Charity from Animal Charity Evaluators for all of their rating periods. Over the past few years, we've grown to a staff of 90+ talented individuals dispersed across the country and around the world.

YOUR OPPORTUNITY

The Humane League is seeking a self-motivated, well organized, collaborative individual with the drive to create progressive change for millions of farmed animals on our Global Corporate Engagement team. As the Global Corporate Engagement Administrator, you will support global corporate engagement work by recording and maintaining data on cage-free and broiler policies and providing crucial administrative support to the team. You will manage our research databases and engage in necessary research (such as finding corporate policies and company contacts) that enables global corporate relations and campaigns. You will also be working closely with Open Wing Alliance members to share data and progress, and coordinate member organizations and/or third parties to translate global commitments into key languages. This role reports to the Head of Global Corporate Engagement.

This is a full-time, remote position. This position requires both domestic and international travel, equivalent to approximately 2-3 trips per year and ranging between 2-7 days in duration. We are only able to consider applicants who reside and possess work authorization in the Eastern and Central time zones of the United States, or United Kingdom.

****We will be recording a webinar hosted by Ellie Ponders, Head of Global Corporate Engagement and Abby Sarfas, Global Corporate Projects Coordinator. You can submit any questions you would like answered regarding the role and The Humane League via this Google Form Question Submission page. Please submit any questions by May 22nd, 2023 at 12:00 pm US EST. The webinar will be available to watch here after May 23rd, 2023.

Your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Attend international conferences, events, and protests as required and able to provide support.
  • Provide training to new team members on our data processes, research techniques, and other applicable systems and resources.
  • Attend meetings with corporations as needed to take notes that support the team in crafting their corporate relations strategy.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Global Corporate Engagement.
  • Refining our list of hundreds of global companies to select the top ~100 to focus our attention. Annually updating our data on ~100 top global companies, including revenue, number of locations, countries of operation, welfare commitments, etc.
  • Work with the Open Wing Alliance to collect key language translations of global cage-free and broiler chicken commitments so that groups worldwide can leverage commitments in their region.
  • Create presentations for others with options to co-lead and provide tech support in hosting corporate engagement webinars for the Open Wing Alliance.
  • Assist in fielding campaign-related questions from OWA members on Slack (our communication platform) and maintaining the OWA Action App as needed to support campaigners.
  • Like every member of Global Corporate Engagement, this role will be involved in strategy-setting, specifically bringing a data lens to inform our decisions.
  • Lead administrative duties for team meetings including scheduling, agenda creation, note-taking, and facilitation.
  • Independently perform research to support global campaigns and corporate negotiations, such as executive contact information, existing animal welfare policies, corporate brands portfolio, locations worldwide, etc.
  • Maintain our database of country-level cage-free information to inform global corporate relations work (tracking relevant information related to every country's cage-free status, major commitments, legislation, etc).
  • Update and maintain our commitment tracking database by transferring and fact-checking data submitted by other animal welfare organizations. This data is put into the tracker, checked for errors, and proofread. Update and maintain other tracking documents, like policy information, corporate contacts, and translations so progress and statistics can be shared internally and externally.

The ideal candidate will possess most, if not all the following qualities, skills, and characteristics:

  • Flexible task management: This role will sometimes be required to provide time-sensitive support to team members. You will have the ability to respond to support requests in a timely manner, working flexibly to complete tasks and manage your workload.
  • Critical Thinking and Research: Able to perform basic research on companies such as their revenue, locations, existing animal welfare commitments, executive team, contact info, and other related information. Brings creativity and tenacity when looking for hard-to-find information.
  • Tech savvy: High proficiency with Excel/Google Sheets, Powerpoint, Google Docs. It's less important that you know how to do everything right away, and more important that you pick up new software fairly quickly, are able to self-learn, and use Google to troubleshoot.
  • Communication: Ability to write, present and speak clearly and effectively in English. You are able to work well across cultures and with members who do not speak English as a first language. You are a responsive asynchronous communicator.
  • Organization: This role requires extensive organizational skills to keep internal documents easy to navigate, juggle multiple priorities, and generally help keep the team functioning smoothly. You can work within tight deadlines and anticipate future priorities to organize your workload effectively.
  • Collaboration: Although this position is highly independent, the success of this role relies on your ability to work cooperatively and collaborate with team members, as well as other NGOs and stakeholders. You will have a team mindset and find purpose in supporting others.
  • Global Mindset: Comfortable working with people from different cultures, countries, and political systems. Our strategies and tactics are developed with a global impact in mind and incorporate the diverse experiences of our members. You are open to the ideas and perspectives of others and apply DE&I principles to your work and interactions.

This position will be closing on Friday June 9th, 2023 at 12:00 pm US EST.

The initial application review will happen after the application closing date above. Once your application has been reviewed, you will be notified via email with further details on the status of your application. If a candidate is moved forward, the interview process will be as follows:

  • Reference Check
  • First Interview (via video call)
  • Second Interview (via video call)
  • Work Simulation Exercise (completed remotely)

The compensation range for this role is $45,400 - $56,700 USD or £22,300 - £27,900 GBP. At The Humane League, we believe in maintaining a fair and equitable work environment for all employees. As part of our commitment to transparency and equity, we have adopted a no negotiation policy for salaries. We carefully consider a variety of factors to determine compensation for each position, including a job's size and complexity, required experience, knowledge, and/or skills, internal comparability, and market data. Experience will be measured by considering prior work in jobs or activities that are related to the role at THL. Required knowledge will be assessed, where applicable, using acquired education and/or certifications.

THL US employees enjoy full medical coverage, optional dental and vision packages, a 401(k) retirement plan, pet care & Rx discount plans, working from home, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave for eligible employees, paid holidays, flexible vacation time, professional development, and the supportive environment at The Humane League! Employees in the United Kingdom will enjoy annual leave starting at 25 working days off per year, sick pay, pension, internet allowance, insurance, and other special leave policies.

At The Humane League (THL), animal welfare is at the forefront of our everyday work. As such, many of our staff are vegan by personal choice, and all of our THL-hosted events offer fully vegan menus. We welcome all mission-aligned candidates to apply, no matter where you are in your journey to end the abuse of animals raised for food.

The Humane League is committed to creating a diverse environment and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. Women, people of color, people with disabilities, and veterans are strongly encouraged to apply. In compliance with laws and in furtherance of our commitment to fostering an environment that welcomes and embraces diversity, all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, age, or veteran status.

The Humane League is committed to working with and providing reasonable accommodations to individuals with disabilities. We trust individuals to self-identify and ask for the accommodations they need. An example of an accommodation might be extra time to complete a work simulation exercise, among many others. If you need a reasonable accommodation because of a disability for any part of the employment process, please complete this form to let us know the nature of your request and your contact information.
