The mission of the Great Oaks (GO) Foundation is to provide students with access to a quality education through high-dosage tutoring. We recruit, train, and support a corps of young adults who are placed in partner schools where they intensively tutor students as a part of a year of service through the federal AmeriCorps program. We call our tutors "Fellows" to encompass the several roles they play to instruct, mentor, and develop the students with whom they are matched. In the 2023-24 school year, Fellows will serve in Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, and Washington, DC.

Position Summary

This is a new role focused on ensuring that GO Fellows have a positive experience in our program, with particular focus on the period between when they accept their offers (for some, as early as December) and when they begin service in August. You will help solve a key problem facing our program: how to engage and develop incoming Fellows during this pre-service stage to deepen their commitment to service.

Key Responsibilities

• Project Coordinator (approximately 20% of time) - You'll manage the logistics of the projects directly related to the Fellow experience. This includes the surveys we administer, our system for tracking Fellow observation data, and the logistics for focus groups. You'll also support gathering and analyzing key data related to our program.
• Fellow Experience (approximately 60% of time) - You'll communicate with and bring together incoming, current, and former GO Fellows to ensure a positive program experience. From January to August, your focus will be on engaging with the incoming Fellows via online communication, phone calls, and in-person gatherings. During the fall, you will conduct focus groups to learn about the experience of our current Fellows, and you'll also engage with our program's alumni.
• Team Programming (approximately 20% of time) - Our team is highly collaborative and we all show up to help make our programming successful. You will be expected to support during monthly in-person network-wide Fellow development days, as well as the annual GO Forum in early August. You will also participate in monthly GO Foundation staff meetings and collaboration days.

Must Have:

• Previous experience as a former GO Fellow or a current or former staff member who has worked with GO Fellows at one of our schools or at the GO Foundation. Familiarity with our program is a must and we won't consider candidates without this experience.
• Able to speak with passion and excitement about national service and the GO Fellowship in particular
• Superb communication skills, both electronically and in-person
• Awareness of and comfort with issues of diversity, specifically around race, class, sexuality and gender; ability to engage in and facilitate discussion about these topics
• Superb organizational skills, including creating and following spreadsheet-based work plans

Location

• The GO Foundation covers the cost of work-related travel.
• You must live within one of the states where GO Fellows are serving (CT, NY, NJ, DC) and within 35 miles of one of our service sites (Bridgeport, Manhattan, Newark, and Washington).
• GO Foundation staff work from home most days, but you will need to be able to work in-person 5-6 days per month. This includes 2 in-person staff meeting days in New York City, 1 monthly in-person Fellow development day (various locations), and 2-3 days in which you engage with incoming, current, or former Fellows.

Compensation

• Annual salary range for this role is $60,000-70,000

COVID-19 Vaccine

The GO Foundation requires all staff members to obtain and submit evidence of full COVID-19 vaccination. This decision was made to keep all staff and students safe as we return to in-person meetings and site visits. New hires will be able to start working with one dose of the vaccine as long as the second dose (where applicable) is scheduled within a month of the person's start date.
