Job Description
The Platform team creates the technology that enables Spotify to learn quickly and scale easily, enabling rapid growth in our users and our business around the globe. Spanning many disciplines, we work to make the business work; creating the frameworks, capabilities and tools needed to welcome a billion customers. Join us and help to amplify productivity, quality and innovation across Spotify.

Originated from Spotify, Backstage is a leading open source platform for building developer portals. Adopted by hundreds of companies, Backstage helps customers to restore order to their microservices and infrastructure and enables product teams to ship high-quality code quickly — without compromising autonomy.

Interested in helping us drive Spotify’s developer portal philosophy among the most sophisticated tech companies? We in Spotify’s Backstage team are looking for our first Sales Development Representative to help get our product into the hands of our very first customers.

Join a forward-thinking, startup-like team of engineers, marketers, business developers, and product managers to drive an entirely new technology-focused business line and distribution channel.

As our first Account Executive, you will be a key player in building out our sales team. You’ll be responsible for closing inbound/outbound deals to ensure we promote the Backstage product, hit our sales targets and increase our market share. You will handle business relationships, provide guidance and education to help customers that are interested in purchasing Spotify Plugins for Backstage.

What You'll Do

  • Experiment with different pricing proposals and collaborate with internal partners on evolving the pricing strategy
  • Aggregate takeaways and represent the voice of the customer to internal product and engineering teams
  • Coordinate cross-functional internal teams to efficiently navigate complex sales cycles (product, engineering, customer success, legal)
  • Leverage a value-oriented sales methodology and promote our product to prospects
  • Maintain up-to-date and clean data in our CRM; leverage reports in our CRM to provide business updates to cross-functional teams.
  • Engage in discovery with prospects by asking targeted questions, understanding trends, and supplying to sales playbooks
  • Drive opportunities through the entire sales cycle from pipeline generation through to close and post-sales
  • Cultivate long-term relationships with customers
  • Collaborate with business development and marketing to take findings and improve the pitch and sales collateral
  • Maintain weekly sales forecast and achieve quota quarterly

Who You Are

  • Strong analytical skills with a deep understanding of forecasting & pipeline management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to sell at all levels from individual contributors to C-Suite
  • Self-starter with the ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Passionate about the Backstage story and an appetite to become fluent in Backstage’s technology, open source, and the Developer Experience industry.
  • Have 5+ years of sales experience, ideally in SaaS or enterprise technology, selling to mid-market or enterprise accounts, including previous outbound prospecting experience
  • Experience with CRMs (experience with Hubspot highly preferred)
  • Strong customer orientation and affinity for delivering a special customer experience
  • Maintain a proven record of consistently exceeding quotas
  • A consultative, relationship-driven sales philosophy

Where You'll Be

  • Prefer an office to work from home instead? Not a problem! We have plenty of options for your working preferences. Find more information about our Work From Anywhere options here.
  • We are a distributed workforce enabling our band members to find a work mode that is best for them!
  • Where in the world? For this role, it can be within East coast Americas in which we have a work location and is within working hours.
