Job Description
We’re looking for a confident and detail-oriented events professional with experience planning and promoting events of varying sizes and managing projects at all stages — from conception and pre-event planning to on-site execution and post-event analysis.

If you want to lead events that make people’s day and leave a lasting impact, join our team.

We produce events that blow people’s minds. We’re not happy until they say, “This is the best event I’ve attended all year.”

You build and use strong systems to manage everything. You know exactly what matters and what has to happen to deliver an extraordinary event. Your systems make sure that we’re running a tight machine, not dependent on memory or habit (because a great event is more than one person’s skill or effort).

You’re the primary event leader, who gets support from across the organization, but you’re the one in charge. You are the team captain with the leadership and communications skills to get a team to execute on your plan. You’re out front at the event, directing each player, and upholding standards.

You own every detail, however small, because an amazing event is the sum of all the little things. You have high standards, verging on perfectionism, because care for the details is our secret to extraordinary experiences.

What we're looking for:

  • Extraordinary project management and planning skills: Ability to juggle and prioritize many projects simultaneously with an eye on the big picture.
  • Service attitude and outstanding customer service skills: Focused on customer experience, anticipating needs, and recognizing above-and-beyond opportunities to amaze.
  • Proven, bulletproof systems that you can show us. We’ll want to see examples of your event management systems in our interviews.
  • Process-driven work style: Sophisticated about how work gets done and thrives in a highly process-driven workflow with structure, documentation, and data. Understands the importance of systems to enable us to deliver deep quality at scale. Takes ownership of the work and is always looking for improvements in process and execution.
  • Nice to work with.
  • Virtual event experience: You can make it work online, too.
  • You care passionately about the success of others . You're driven by the desire to serve and deliver an experience that is meaningful for our participants, our mission, and the people we serve.
  • Ability to meet physical demands of the job, including moving heavy boxes, extended travel, and long days with little sleep.
  • Event experience: You’ve done this many times before at an organization our size, with events like ours. You are experienced in all aspects of event management, including full P&L responsibility. CMP and/or PMP strongly preferred.
  • High levels of energy, drive, enthusiasm, commitment, and good humor.
  • Ownership: You’re self-starting, self-managed, and can operate with limited support and supervision.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and calm under pressure.

The Loneliness Institute Mission

The Loneliness Institute is the clearinghouse for large-scale solutions to the loneliness epidemic.

The loneliness epidemic is an under-addressed, widespread crisis – and a significant underlying driver of other social and health crises. Loneliness makes every other problem deeper, makes every journey longer, and every victory harder.

Amazing work is being done to address this growing problem, but this work is highly fragmented across academic disciplines, local experiments, and other isolated initiatives. We bring together researchers and innovators to find out what works, and what works big. Then we share those best practices to help amplify successful programs and reconnect humanity. We need to fast-track getting these solutions into communities and the marketplace, to as many people as possible.

Work with us to win this. When you win against loneliness, you help society in so many other meaningful ways.

About The Loneliness Institute

We’re a new 501(c)3 nonprofit recently launched to address these issues. We have initial funding in place and are hiring our core team. This is your opportunity to be there at the beginning as we create a national-scale organization with significant social impact. You’ll be at the table and have a voice as we refine our mission, build our community, create a great organization, and start solving this problem. It’s a startup, so make sure you’re comfortable with change and ambiguity before signing on. We have a very open, collaborative workplace.

Some important details

How to get this job: Contact us directly and submit an application at lonely.org. We want to see a great cover letter, resume, and examples of work that show us how you think and work. Show us what you've done and how you can do it for us. Qualified candidates will start with a video interview, then we’ll meet in person.

Other ways to get involved: If you think you might be a fit for this team and mission, but the job duties don’t match your experience and skills, please apply anyway. We have plenty of opportunities and would love to meet you.

Location: We’ll have some hybrid schedules a few days a week, but this is primarily a full-time, in-the-office position based in Austin, TX. We believe that face-to-face in-person work is more healthy, productive, and fun. There’s nothing like the energy of being with a great team doing great work side-by-side.

Compensation: We offer full benefits and extensive PTO. Specific salaries are based on experience and our growing budget.

Our workplace culture

Imagine never having another boring day at work. We work intensely -- and then we go home, on time, to our personal lives. We have rational work policies that enable a healthy, sustainable work life, and we combine that with amazing energy and productivity to do astonishingly good work every day. We don't know it all, but we're figuring it out together and having a great time doing it.

You’ll like our team. We only work with people we like, people who care, and people devoted to the cause. There are no office politics, whiners, slackers, or jerks. We’re dedicated, we’re driven, and you’ll enjoy spending your days with us.

We seek to create an inclusive and dynamic team environment where people of diverse backgrounds, experiences, abilities, and perspectives can thrive and have a positive impact towards achieving our mission.
