Job Title
Director of Spirit, Tradition, and Signature Events (STSE)

Essential Functions
The Director of STSE is responsible for creating unique, dynamic, and progressive programmatic efforts that promote a vibrant student-centered environment, enhances the opportunities for student involvement, leadership, connection, activities/programs, and involvement on the UNO Campus and in the greater Omaha community. This position will oversee student activities on campus, which includes Maverick Productions, Dance Marathon, and Spirit and Traditions. The incumbent will hire and supervise both professional and student staff, provide training, and evaluation for these employees. The Director of STSE will work closely with the Executive Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs and regularly meet with UNO Athletics personnel.
The Director will be responsible for marketing and recruitment efforts within the department. They will work closely with the leadership within the Division of Student Life and Wellbeing and other University divisions/departments in promotion and coordination of a wide variety of campus events and opportunities for all students across campus. They will be responsible for the University’s implementation of Presence software. Larger scale events that the director will coordinate and develop include Convocation, Homecoming, Durango Days, De-Stress Fest, Athletic Partnerships / events, and other large scale programming opportunities associated with Maverick Productions and the Office of STSE.
It will be important that the Director is able to develop relationships and partnerships both on campus, but also within the Omaha Community and beyond and provides opportunities for students to be exposed to opportunities within the greater Omaha area. This individual should be innovative in how they approach student involvement and have an understanding on how vibrant campus life and opportunity for involvement contribute to the UNO Mission and the success of students across campus. The incumbent STSE Director will be directly responsible for developing and managing a Maverick Pass Program which builds partnerships with local businesses and cultural centers to create incentives and rewards unique to any current MavCard holder.

Work Schedule
Monday - Friday; 8 - 5 (occasional evenings and weekends)

Additional Duties
  • Provide oversite and planning on departmental goals and strategies. Coordinate and plan departmental budget. Formulate and implement policies and procedures related to events, risk management, etc. for the department.
  • Responsibility for planning, coordination, and implementation of UNO Signature events including (but not limited to): Durango Days, Homecoming, De-Stress Fest, Dance Marathon, and other new innovative tradition and events. Provide ongoing opportunities for involvement of students throughout the year. Conduct assessments and focus groups in an effort to continually improve programmatic efforts.
  • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate professional and paraprofessional staff and volunteer opportunities. Provide training, coaching, and guidance to ensure that expectations are clearly communicated; Ensure that performance is appraised and measured on a regular basis. Ensure proper job training and professional development for staff of the office.
  • Collaborate closely with UNO Athletics to support vibrant student involvement and engagement within various athletic events. Advise the Maverick Maniacs and plan and implement Spirit Trips, Tailgates, etc.
  • Establish partnerships with area and regional business and community organizations that provide unique and mutually beneficial sponsorship opportunities.

Required Qualifications
Required Education: Master’s Degree
Required Experience: Minimum of five years of student activities/programming and/or student involvement experience.
Will consider an equivalent combination or education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Education: Master’s Degree in Student Affairs Administration, Counseling, or related field
Preferred Experience: Ten years of higher education experience including student activities/programming, budgeting, and supervision experience. Strong experience in building community partnerships and incentive programs.
