About the Video Engineering and Event Services Department
Event Technical Support and Media Production services meet the audio-visual (AV) needs of events through a fee-based service. From webinar support to hybrid events, our team has the staff, expertise, and equipment to meet our client’s event technical needs, including: Hybrid Events, Webinars & Virtual Events, Video Recording, Special Services, and Media Production.
The Opportunity
The Event Technical Support Technician works within the Video Engineering & Event Services department, a team of audio-visual engineers, service owners, technicians, and media producers. This team supports audio-visual applications, infrastructure, and services across the university including the Event Technical Support & Media Production (ETSMP) service, CUView Digital Signage, AV Installation, Kaltura video streaming, and Zoom.
The support technician responds to client needs and collaborates with other IT staff to identify, develop, and implement appropriate technology solutions for live and recorded events, provides media production and archival services, and provides production support for major campus events.
Key responsibilities of the position include:
- Technology coordination and consultation for university events
- Live event production, video streaming, recording, post-production, and archiving
- Technical support for the Event Technical Support and Media Production (ETSMP) service

What We Need
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and formal training with a minimum two to three years of experience working with professional broadcast cameras, microphones, video and audio mixers, and sound amplification.
- Aptitude to manage multiple simultaneous priorities, strong customer service, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience designing and operating complex audio-visual signal distribution solutions used for video streaming, broadcast, web conferencing, and local presentation.
- A demonstrated ability to communicate and coordinate effectively within an enterprise IT organization.
- Availability for pre-scheduled evening and weekend events.
Employees are expected to meet all of the Cornell University Staff Skills for Success, which are essential for individual and organizational success.
Employees may be required to work outside of normal business hours, including occasional holidays, evenings, and weekends.
This position is located in Ithaca, New York and may provide some hybrid work flexibility.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting hybrid events with live streaming applications such as Live Stream.
- Avixa CTS certification.
- Experience with web conferencing applications such as Zoom.
- PowerPoint, and Mac and Windows OS’s experience.
- Media production, Adobe Creative Suite, advanced microphone technique, sound reinforcement, videography, shot composition, and remote pan, tilt, zoom (PTZ) camera experience.
