Position Summary:
Responsible for the recruitment, auditioning, negotiating, hiring and scheduling of fleetwide orchestra musicians. Responsible for overseeing inventory of all onboard musical instruments and equipment as it pertains to live music sets, Broadway Shows and Signature Production Shows.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan and implement specialized Live Music for Sales Events, Groups, Charters, Theme Cruises and shoreside Corporate Events.
- Maintain Live Music schedules by ship and itinerary. Adjust schedules based on operational needs.
- Participate in Live Music development by tracking emmerging trends, analyzing guest feedback and attending Live Music performances.
- Oversees piano tuning schedule and musical instrument maintenance visits.
- Travel to the various vessels to evaluate all performances. Meet with Musical Directors and Cruise Directors to assess and provide feedback regarding the quality of the overall Live Music program.
- Oversees inventory and condition of onboard musical instruments.
- Liaise with Crew Acquisition and Movement to support scheduling of all musicians. Coordinate with CAM and Risk Management regarding travel, sign on, sign off, medical and risk management issues.
- Review staffing levels of musicians to anticipate and prevent shortages and select appropriate replacements within strict timelines
- Prepare various reports as required including, but not limited to, status reports, talent search reviews, budget analysis and industry trends.
- Plan schedules and rotations ensuring highest caliber of musicians are hired.
- Evaluate talent, originality, authenticity, fit for brand, production value and suitability for selected ships and demographics
- Establish and maintain a network of resources through the development of relationships with music schools, colleges, agencies and related resources.
- Recruit, screen, interview, negotiate and hire orchestra musicians directly, or with agent, for the Live Music program. Measure the effectiveness of each prospective musician according to the required styles and technical abilities. Positions include, but not limited to, Piano, Drums, Bass, Guitar, Trombone, Tenor Saxophone, Alto Saxophone, Trumpet.
- Travel to various locations and attend festivals, concerts, showcases, industry events and functions featuring live professional music.
- Prepare annual operating budget for all orchestra musicians and manage expenses within established operating plan.
- Supports newbuild musical instruments owner supply overseeing logistics and working as liaison with purchasing department.
- Negotiate and finalize all contracts maintaining entertainment KPIs within the annual budget.
- Evaluate musician skills such as sight-reading, intonation, appropriate musical aesthetics, range of instruments and overall musicianship. Review audio selections and/or videos
Qualifications, knowledge & skills:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in related field preferred.
- Cruise industry experience both shipboard and/or shoreside are preferred. Experience with Microsoft Office required.
- Proven success in relationships with schools, colleges, agencies and related resources must be demonstrated.
- Experience as a performer, in front of live audiences (and therefore having a profound understanding of the complexities and idiosyncrasies of the performing arts) is preferred.
- A minimum of five years’ experience in the Entertainment industry with an extensive background in multiple music genres required.
