Director of Arts Marketing
In line with the College’s undergraduate liberal arts mission to nurture the inquiring mind and to integrate intellectual, social, and personal growth, Lafayette Arts fosters a strong commitment to the arts, offers creative opportunities without regard to major, and works to strengthen connections not only across the arts but also between the arts and other College divisions. Lafayette Arts spans five academic departments and programs (art, creative writing, film and media studies, music, and theater); a professional performance series; an expansive art collection; two professionally-curated galleries that mount some 10 exhibitions each year; the Experimental Printmaking Institute (EPI); and the Maggin Creative and Performing Arts Scholars Program (CaPA). The Williams Arts Campus houses a 180-seat state-of-the-art cinema; a 250-seat black box theater; painting, sculpture, drawing, and photography studios; a t.v. shooting studio; advanced editing suites and media labs; and Lafayette’s community-based teaching program. The Williams Center for the Arts on the main campus houses the Performance Series, which hosts approximately 70 events each year; the recently renovated 368-seat main stage auditorium; and the Kirby Art Study Center, which houses and displays the College’s art collection.
The Director of Arts Marketing promotes and supports the work and branding of Lafayette Arts and develops and executes its marketing plan. Lafayette Arts consists of the professional Art Galleries and Performance Series and the five academic programs and departments of Art, Creative Writing [in the English department], Film and Media Studies, Music, and Theater. The Director formulates strategies to deepen the relationship with existing audiences, generate new audiences, and improve attendance at events. The individual is responsible for researching, designing, organizing, and executing a comprehensive marketing program that includes developing and directing marketing, sales, and new technology programs, and managing financial resources to achieve sales goals and organizational objectives. The incumbent should also contribute strategies to expand the institutional profile of the Williams Center and all arts programs at Lafayette College, in the region and nationally.
Reporting to the Dean of Arts and Humanities, the Director of Arts Marketing builds and cultivates relationships with and supports all Lafayette Arts stakeholders. The Director also partners with the Lafayette Communications Division.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Closely collaborates with the Communications Division’s design team about designing and
- Manages digital and print media communications, including season brochures, social media, website, print advertising, email campaigns, and calendar updates in consultation with Communications.
- Contributes to the development and strengthening of the Lafayette Arts identity and branding in collaboration with the Arts stakeholders and the Communications division.
- Supports through marketing efforts the College and Lafayette Arts’ DEI initiatives and serving the disability-friendly community.
- Keeps abreast of new developments and technologies to enhance marketing programs.
- Producing digital and print Arts communications materials and works with Communications to gather analytics and CTR.
- Creates and implements marketing and ticket distribution/sales programs to generate attendance and revenue.
- Establishes and cultivates relationships with arts communities at the College and in the local area, within the context of a liberal arts environment and in advancement of the College.
- Creates ancillary materials as needed, such as signage.
- Contributes to the strategy of marketing to existing donors and potential donors; and has direct responsibility for fulfilling donor recognition through print collateral, website and other vehicles.
- Develops and executes comprehensive market research strategies and analyzes sales and attendance trends for Performance Series and other Lafayette Arts events.
- Supervises and trains student marketing assistants, if applicable.
Experience and Qualifications
- Knowledge and experience with developing institutional branding, marketing strategies and communications for an arts, commercial, or corporate organization.
- Knowledge and experience in budgeting and long-term budget management, including competitive bidding with vendors.
- Knowledge and experience in long- and short-range marketing planning for a visual and performing arts organization.
- Knowledge and experience in recruiting and supervising employees, interns, and volunteers.
- Knowledge and experience in creating, managing and executing media relations strategies.
Required Qualifications
- Knowledge of website and e-marketing principles and strategies.
- Ability to adapt industry trends and advances in program marketing.
- High degree of proficiency using various software programs.
- Excellent writing and editing skills, with experience with press releases, media relations, and social media posts.
- Position requires a B.A./B.F.A. or a more advanced degree and substantial experience in marketing in the performing and visual arts.
- Ability to work effectively and communicate with individuals and teams, to collaborate and communicate effectively with stakeholders and partners from many constituencies, both within and outside Lafayette Arts.
- 2-3 years of experience creating marketing collateral for print and digital platforms.
- Familiarity with digital platforms and online/social media marketing platforms, Geofencing, in-app and mobile ad placement.
- Ability to accomplish goals autonomously and within tight deadlines.
Desired qualifications
- Experience and skills in graphic design.
- Familiarity with ticketing software.
