Job Description

Our client, an independent power producer with a passion for clean energy, is seeking a Director or Senior Director of Development. This exciting role will give you the opportunity to lead technology development and strategy for solar, wind, and storage within MISO, ERCOT, or WECC.


In this role, you'll lead a team of development associates and analysts to build out a cross-technology greenfield portfolio, while evaluating and sourcing M&A opportunities. You'll be responsible for driving market development and value creation across diverse project pipelines. You'll work closely with the management team, and be hands-on with a detailed grasp of both the details and the big picture. Key responsibilities for this role will include (but not limited to):

• Take charge of driving the growth and success of projects in MISO, ERCOT, or WECC and be accountable for their success.

• Develop innovative approaches to improve existing business models, delivering exceptional results.

• Recruit, train, and supervise a small team to facilitate the success of the region.

• Devise and execute a strategy for project development in the market, and be responsible for it.

• Collaborate with various departments, such as finance, procurement, and transmission, to investigate and comprehend project assumptions and identify value in various areas.

• Lead and manage a team consisting of market leads, developers, business development leads, and support staff, and provide guidance and mentorship in risk assessment, analysis, and negotiation.

• Supervise activities across the market, with an emphasis on project profitability and budget control.

• Originate, manage, and/or lead due diligence on acquisition projects, counterparties, and sites.

• Evaluate and interpret market regulations, program economics, and input prices, and provide input to the company's development strategy and business plan.

• Establish and maintain partnerships with peer community developers, customer acquisition and management providers, policy groups, and investors.


Required and desired skillsets, experience and qualifications for this role:

• Bachelor's degree in energy, environmental, business, or engineering preferred.

• At least 6-10 years of experience in renewable energy development, with direct involvement in at least two types of asset classes.(Solar, Wind, BESS)

• Ability to manage project stakeholders, communities, and policymakers to deliver optimal project and market outcomes.

• Capability to summarize complex risks and opportunities into clear and actionable directions.

• In-depth knowledge of the policies, regulations, and competitive dynamics that influence revenue and market access.

• Capacity to work in a deadline-driven environment while handling multiple tasks.

• Prior experience in managing and hiring a small team directly.

• Master's degree is a plus.

• Familiarity with GIS platforms and the ability to manipulate GIS data is desirable.

• Ability to utilize Excel spreadsheets, create excel trackers, and be able to use Word and PowerPoint for reporting/presentations via teams or in person.
