Summary


The Business Development Director (California) will contribute to the overall growth by generating new business opportunities, increasing revenue, conducting market research, and developing marketing strategies to ensure growth. The Business Development Director will report to the Vice President of Sales & Marketing and play a critical role in evaluating viability of outside business partners, mergers and acquisition opportunities, alliances, joint ventures, and venture capital sources to support the development and implementation of strategic initiatives. This is a remote position, which will be responsible for developing sales in the state of California. Depending on future business needs, the incumbent employee’s coverage region may extend into other Western states.


Duties:


  • Visit potential customers to discuss their application and use of Hydak hydrophilic coatings equipment and their potential needs to purchase one from Biocoat.
  • Coordinate the on-site training of customer personnel in both the application and testing of Hydak hydrophilic coatings.
  • Proven ability to understand customer industry and business needs and offer unique and innovative solutions.
  • Develop and execute a sales strategy to build presence in the designated regions within OEM that develop and market interventional medical devices.
  • Act as single point of contact for assigned customers. Focus is on driving new product development funnel, revenue, and client retention by building consultative relationships.
  • Understand competitive environment and create strategic and tactical responses to penetrate competitive customers and grow new client base.
  • Work with client to establish a strategic account planning process and agree upon performance objectives.
  • Understand the voice of the customer and assist the broader company in understanding and using that information to align and drive our business.
  • Ability to formulate relationships with potential customers to help sell Biocoat’s full line of products, services and equipment.
  • Create client demonstrations, presentations, displays, etc. using technical, organizational and customer knowledge to assist them in selecting our products.
  • Translate company strategy into business objectives leading to actionable sales strategies.
  • Collaborate with marketing, R&D, finance, production, and other internal departments in creating and executing plans to drive revenue growth and ensure support and implementation of initiatives and strategies.
  • Coordinate the plan to assist the licensee with setting up their own coating facilities with technology transfer, conceptual design, equipment specs, suppliers, training, validation, etc.
  • Monitor market trends in the coatings industry for medical devices environment and collaborate with marketing and R&D to capitalize on new products / service development.
  • Work with Marketing Dept. to ensure we have the right resources to aid in the selling process.
  • Attend pertinent sales conferences and vendor shows representing the company.
  • Participate in the business plan forecasting and planning process.


Qualifications & Requirements


  • Scientific acumen - understanding chemistry, coatings, and medical devices.
  • Must be proficient in utilization of Salesforce.com.
  • Ability to travel up to 60%. Overnight travel is required.
  • Strong influence, relationship building, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Successful sales history and demonstrated success in managing long sales cycle (6-18 mos.) with business to business selling experience required.
  • Experience developing and managing budgets.
  • Ensures all interactions are consistent with company values.
  • Demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience in the design and execution of sales plans.
  • A minimum of two years of the sales experience must involve working directly with Cardiology OEMs and startup accounts (cardiac catheter labs/Interventional Radiology). Hydrophilic Coatings experience preferred.
  • Commitment to working with shared leadership and in cross-functional teams.
  • Four or more years of demonstrated direct sales experience within medical device, bio/pharmaceutical or chemical industry.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, science, engineering or a related field.
  • Able to work independently and to flourish in a hands-on, high growth, dynamic, entrepreneurial environment.
