About Stanford University And Residential & Dining Enterprises
Stanford University, located between San Francisco and San Jose in the heart of California's Silicon Valley, is one of the world's leading teaching and research universities. Residential & Dining Enterprises (R&DE), the largest auxiliary organization at Stanford University, supports the academic mission of the University by providing high-quality services to students and other members of the university community. The department has an annual operating budget of over $350M, operates 24/7/365, and oversees a $3B asset portfolio comprising a 7 million sq. ft. physical plant across the campus. In autumn quarter of the 2021-22 academic year, R&DE will return to providing housing for over 13,000 students and dependents, serving meals at 17 dining halls, 12 retail locations, and operating athletic concessions and conference operations. Additionally, R&DE comprises 900 FTE staff in the following divisions: Student Housing Operations, Stanford Dining, Stanford Hospitality & Auxiliaries, Stanford Conferences, Maintenance Operations and Capital Projects, and a team of R&DE strategic business partners: Finance & Administration, Information Technology, Human Resources, and Strategic Communications.

This role is currently designated as hybrid and may provide incumbents with flexibility for partial telecommuting.
Job Purpose
Function as Design Assistant to interior design team members of the R&DE, MCP Architecture and Design group. Responsibilities include: Assist with FF&E selections. Develop cadd plans for space planning, Maintenance of product design library. Maintenance of FF&E data base, Development of record documents for projects with retention of finish is samples. Coordination with industry sales representatives. And other duties as assigned. Work is typically comprised of 50% time contribution toward project assistance support, 30% towards project record keeping and product design library maintenance, 10% toward sales representative coordination and 10% toward other university required activities.
Core Duties
  • Perform project management oversight of small projects or more than one large task within a larger project.
  • Oversee, coordinate, and perform technical aspects of project, with guidance, based on type of project manager support required (e.g., engineer, quality, scheduler).
  • Ensure the preparation of required project documentation.
  • Contribute to communication plan and change management elements.
  • Review, evaluate, approve, and monitor cost schedule and technical scope baselines.
  • Review project plans and proposals, and work with management to develop project objectives; identify project responsibilities by determining the phases and elements of the project; calculate time frames and sequence the stages of the project.
Additional Duties
  • Complete assignments as directed by department and University senior leadership.
  • Serve as department’s junior design professional. Support Design Managers with assigned project tasks.
  • Other duties may also be assigned.
  • Provide a range of junior level interior design services including but not limited to: conceptual design, design development, design presentations, development of cadd drafted furniture plans, product research, FF&E selections, development of FF&E specifications, consulting sales rep coordination, archiving information, design data base entry, updating and maintaining product library.
  • Work independently and as part of a team.
Minimum Requirements
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in a related field and two years relevant experience or a combination of education and relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
  • Strong, conceptual, graphic and presentation skills.
  • Polished written and oral communication skills to address a wide variety of audiences.
  • NCIDQ, ASID, IIDA preferred.
  • Demonstrated project management ability to employ integration, scope time management, cost, quality, human resources, communications, risk, and procurement components.
  • Ability to productively contribute to cross-functional teams.
  • Experience as junior interior design professional with demonstrated responsibilities in the following project types: retail; commercial kitchens; fine, casual, and quick service dining; commercial hospitality; higher education projects in the areas of housing, dining and hospitality.
  • Autocad, Photoshop, illustrator, Microsoft office suite proficiency.
  • Depth of knowledge in technical discipline/domain needed to deliver projects.

The expected pay range for this position is $90,000 to $94,000 per annum.
