Job Description
At iFixit, we are dedicated to teaching everyone how to fix any thing. We believe in the empowerment of fixers and collaboration as the way of finding solutions. To share the idea of repair, together with the required knowledge and tools with the world, we strive to create a visually appealing and user-friendly online presence that resonates with our audience.

We are looking for a talented Design Intern who will join our experienced global design team for the next six months. This internship requires 15 hours of work per week at an hourly rate of $20. This position will report to our headquarters in San Luis Obispo, California.

As a Design Intern, you will be able to learn and grow your skills while working on real projects that impact our customers and promote our mission. Your primary responsibility will be to design and create compelling landing and product pages that effectively communicate our brand's identity, values, and offerings. Your work will directly enhance user experience, increase customer engagement, and drive conversions.

What You’ll Do

  • Collaborate with cross-functional, international teams to understand project requirements, objectives, and target audience.
  • Actively participate in design reviews and contribute ideas and feedback to enhance the overall design process and output.
  • Conduct thorough quality checks to ensure the accuracy, consistency, and responsiveness of the designs across different devices.
  • Align with other teams to ensure seamless integration of design and copywriting, maintaining consistency and clarity in messaging.
  • Design social media content that effectively captures our audience's attention and aligns with current trends.
  • Utilize your creativity and design skills to develop engaging layouts, graphics, and other visual elements.
  • Create visually appealing and user-friendly landing and product pages that align with our brand identity and design standards.

What You’ll Need

  • Empathetic team player and able to look at issues from other people’s points of view.
  • Conceptual knowledge of HTML and CSS is beneficial but not required.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and willing to learn, adapt, and take on new challenges.
  • Good communication skills to effectively articulate design concepts, receive feedback and iterate on designs accordingly.
  • Understanding of UI/UX principles and best practices, with the ability to apply them to website design.
  • Proficient in industry-standard design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), Figma, and content management systems like WordPress.
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Graphic Design, Graphic Communication, Web Design, or a related field. Relevant work experience or portfolio showcasing design skills will also be considered.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team, as well as independently, taking ownership of assigned tasks and delivering high-quality work within set deadlines.
  • Strong visual design skills, with an eye for typography, imagery, and composition.

Note: This is an internship position, and candidates should be able to commit to the specified internship duration, which can be discussed during the interview process.

We offer a positive and inclusive work environment that encourages personal and professional growth. Join our global team and contribute to making a difference in the world through design. To apply, please submit your resume, portfolio, and a brief cover letter outlining your interest in the position.
