Southern Heights Presbyterian Church in Lincoln, Nebraska, is seeking a full-time Church Administrator to actively support its values, mission, vision, and ministries through coordination of its administrative needs. Southern Heights is a small, but active, mission-driven congregation, partnering with organizations locally and in the world.
The Church Administrator provides support to the Pastor, ruling elders of Session, the church Treasurer, and numerous committees by managing the church office and the daily operations of the church facility and its events. This includes scheduling meetings and maintaining the church calendar, managing the church's website and communications, maintaining personnel and other records and official documents, conducting background checks on staff and volunteers, and ensuring compliance with required filings and reporting.
In addition, the Church Administrator assists the church Treasurer and Financial Stewardship Committee in developing a budget; managing cash flow; inventorying church property; maintaining insurance policies and loan documentation; and processing payroll, tax payments, accounts payables, accounts receivables, and reimbursements. This position also oversees maintenance and security of the church facility, including the work of contractors and custodial services.
This exempt position is available in early October and requires 40 hours of work per week, Monday through Friday.
Preferred Qualifications and Competencies
- Strong computer skills, with proficiency in church software a plus
- Attention to detail and organization
- Excellent verbal and written communications, mathematical, interpersonal, and leadership skills
- Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in office administration/management (Four years of proven work experience as a Church Administrator or similar role may be substituted.)
- Two years' experience in an office administration position
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
- Knowledge of and ability to apply standard bookkeeping skills and accepted accounting practices
Physical Requirements
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
- Reach with hands and arms
- Sit at a desk and work on a computer for prolonged periods of time
- Talk and hear
- Manually manipulate objects with hands
Compensation and Benefits
Southern Heights offers a competitive salary and benefits package, including medical (premiums for employee coverage paid by employer), dental, and life insurance as well as a pension plan. Paid time off is provided for vacation, bereavement and sick leave, holidays, jury duty, and voting. Work schedule flexibility is negotiable.
