Position Specific Description


The Senior Manager of Thought Leadership is responsible for supporting the creation, development, and implementation of integrated thought leadership, PR and media strategies that delivers on key business priorities and builds awareness of NextEra Energy Resources (NEER), Clean Energy Solutions (CES) products, technology, services, and innovation to support Commercial & Industrial (C&I) customer’s decarbonization journeys. The Senior Manager will drive programs that illuminate NextEra Energy Resources industry leadership and position NEER and as the partner of choice in advancing the decarbonization of the US economy.


Key Responsibilities


Develop and execute the internal and external thought leadership strategy for the NEER brand and CES strategy; ensure programs support business objectives producing results against measurable goals.


Leverage research and insights to optimize and evolve strategy, as well as measure efficacy of programs.


Ensure effective development, planning, execution and promotion of NEER communications programs that advance equity, reputation and accelerates external stakeholder relationships across key vertical industries.


Collaborate across spectrum of internal and external subject matter experts to create and curate relevant content to accelerate thought leadership equity. Defining effective messaging across diverse audience segments.


Serve as the relationship liaison with key strategic external partners, such as industry organizations and associations, third party partners and customers to support programming and activations tied to these strategic collaborations.


Collaborate with internal cross functional teams and network of agency resources.


Play an active role in communication initiatives and special projects, as needed.


Additional Qualifications


Minimum 7+ years of experience in communication or related field


Bachelor's degree in communication or journalism preferred with liberal arts, business majors/minors also considered relevant for the role; graduate study/degree a plus


Experience in energy sector, ESG function or B2B marketing preferred


Superior writer with the ability to express complex information clearly and effectively in a variety of channels


Proven ability to successfully engage with colleagues and external partners and stakeholders at all levels


Outstanding project management with a focus on deadlines and the ability to course correct as issues arise


Experience working with and managing vendors and consultants; managing budgets


Strong ability to adapt and embrace change and work independently and under ambiguous and/or changing circumstances


Experience working in a large multi-business unit company and corporate function a plus, including working in a decentralized and matrixed environment


Job Overview


Employees in this role lead integrated marketing & communications strategies in support of one or more business units or functional areas, assuming full responsibility for leading the development, implementation and measurement of ROI-based communication plans in support of the business units’ objectives. This position is responsible for outreach to customers and other external audiences to enhance the company's reputation as a reliable provider of electricity and raise awareness among customers and other key stakeholders of the company’s initiatives to improve its service and reliability. Individuals direct outreach to customer audiences through direct mail and other channels, participation in community events, and proactive media outreach.


Job Duties & Responsibilities


  • Manages the effective use of communication channels
  • Drives the effective use of market research and other analytics to develop recommendations
  • Leads a team of communications managers and professionals, coaching and directing their performance in accordance with the Marketing and Communications teams high standards for excellence in client service
  • Provides communications counsel to senior leaders and managers
  • Performs market research and analytics
  • Develops as well as follow critical business processes to ensure quality and timely execution of initiatives
  • Develops, improves, standardizes and manages work processes to ensure consistent performance that meets client expectations, including cross-functional collaboration inside and outside Marketing and Communication
  • Ensures disciplined budget management
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned
  • Builds and lead high-performing teams as well as coach individuals to develop to their fullest potential
