Job Description
Personalis, Inc. is a leader in advanced cancer genomics for enabling the next generation of precision cancer therapies and diagnostics. The Personalis NeXT Platform® is designed to adapt to the complex and evolving understanding of cancer, providing its biopharmaceutical customers and clinicians with information on all of the approximately 20,000 human genes, together with the immune system, from a single tissue sample. In population sequencing, Personalis operates one of the largest sequencing operations globally and is currently the sole sequencing provider to Veterans Affairs' Million Veteran Program. To enable cancer and population sequencing, Personalis' Clinical Laboratory was built with a focus on clinical accuracy, quality, big data, scale and efficiency. The laboratory is GxP-aligned as well as Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988-certified and College of American Pathologists-accredited.
Summary:
Personalis is building its position as a leader in precision oncology and is seeking a Senior Director of Commercial Marketing to assume a key commercial leadership role. This team leader will own the strategic direction and tactical implementation of commercial marketing activities across the full portfolio, including tumor profiling and MRD. The Senior Director will be responsible for a multitude of global marketing activities aimed at building awareness and driving demand across both BioPharma and HCP customer segments. This position will own a broad spectrum of upstream and downstream marketing activities including brand planning, commercial market research, branding, lead generation, website management, creative development, asset development, campaign activation, multi-channel marketing, conference planning, and marketing events. This position will also co-own strategic marketing deliverables including go-to-market strategy, customer segmentation, product positioning, and messaging in collaboration with key partners. This leader will oversee a team of marketers to support commercial growth objectives, with the potential to grow and scale a best-in-class team as the business continues to expand.
Responsibilities:
  • Develop a strong understanding of customers across BioPharma and HCP segments, including providers, delegates, and patients, to create effective positioning and key messages to drive product adoption
  • Cultivate a strong partnership with Clinical Sales, Biopharma Sales, Product Management, Medical Affairs, Field Application Specialists, and R&D to contribute to corporate goals and objectives
  • Hire, develop, manage, and motivate a high-performing team of marketers by building effective processes and a collaborative culture
  • Lead all product and portfolio brand planning, ATU/ brand surveys, commercial AdBoards, branding, promotional marketing campaigns, marketing asset and content development, lead generation, media dissemination, multi-channel advertising and promotion, and marketing analytics
  • Lead virtual and in-person marketing events, including conferences, tradeshows, speaker panels and programs, and webinars
  • Actively manage the marketing agency relationship and deliverables, ensuring a cost effective approach that is aligned with commercial goals and objectives
  • Co-own strategic marketing such as go-to-market strategy, customer segmentation, product positioning, and messaging in close partnership with Product Management
  • Build global awareness and drive demand for full portfolio of Personalis products across both BioPharma and HCP customer segments, for all current and pipeline products
  • Establish a high-impact and comprehensive brand/ marketing plan that competitively positions the company for commercial success
  • Lead corporate level marketing activities such as corporate brand guidelines and management, and website and social media management
  • Build and maintain business processes and tools over time, including MLR review, document management, and marketing-related CRM platform management
Education and Experience:
  • Demonstrated track record of partnering well with internal peers and external vendors
  • MBA or advanced degree in Life Sciences (or 2 years of experience in lieu of Master’s degree)
  • Demonstrated leadership capability and experience managing and growing a team
  • Proven ability to thrive and be successful in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to travel up to 20%
  • Ability to develop and present strategy and brand/ marketing plans. Communicates in a compelling manner that captures and holds others’ attention
  • Strong creative intuition on design and messaging that resonates with customers, ability to execute plans with attention to detail, and an ability to learn from previous campaigns to improve on performance
  • Direct NGS and/ or molecular diagnostics experience highly preferred, ideally in MRD or therapy selection/ CGP
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, life sciences, or related field
  • 10+ years of proven experience in marketing roles of increasing scope and responsibility in the genomics, molecular biology, or molecular diagnostics arenas
  • Ideal experience marketing both research products to BioPharma and clinical products to clinicians/ providers
The hiring range for this position is $220,000 to $270,000 per year, which may factor in various geographic regions. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. Our full-time regular positions also include an annual performance-based bonus (or a sales incentive plan) and long-term incentive units (equity) provided as part of our compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
