ABOUT THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE:

The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office is a full service agency that oversees the adult jail, provides patrol, criminal investigations, civil process and search and rescue operations. Special units include SWAT, Marine Patrol, ATV Patrol, Forest Patrol, along with five K9 teams. Founded in 1916 and today led by your duly elected Sheriff L. Shane Nelson, the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office serves over 200,000 residents in Deschutes County.

ABOUT THE JOB
This position is characterized by the ability to solve technical problems related to workstations, network, servers and SAAS products. IT Analyst II will manage projects; from researching new technology, testing, validation, purchasing, and deployment of such technology. Responsible for designing and implementing forward thinking solutions that make the end-users experience better and more efficient. Provides experienced technical support, training, and assistance to Sheriff’s Office staff; analyzes problems and implements solutions according to procedures; identifies and resolves problems within scope of authority and training. The ability to appropriately interact with customers; ascertain needs, develop solutions, give training, and fostering positive working relationships with all staff members within the County. Performs other duties as business needs necessitate and may vary according to job assignment.
This is a Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. position. Work is performed in a standard office environment.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Administers and maintains assigned Sheriff’s Office servers and applications, including virtual servers, storage area networks (SAN), and backup and recovery systems.
  • Compiles data, performs statistical modeling and analysis of structured and unstructured datasets, provides analysis, develops metrics, identifies trends and patterns, and presents analysis through reports and presentations.
  • Designs, implements, maintains, and monitors network connectivity of servers, communications, workstations, and a variety of networked equipment to all locations in the Sheriff’s Office.
  • Provides written and verbal recommendations to management to provide ongoing insight into strategy and operations.
  • Interfaces with other County IT employees to coordinate deployment and implementation of shared resources.
  • Assists Sheriff’s Office administration with planning for new technology needs; defines hardware, software, communications, and network access requirements; researches technology options and recommends solutions.
  • Works with end-users to understand data and analysis needs and develop technical requirements.
What You Will Bring:
Knowledge of or experience with:
  • Hardware, software, and peripheral equipment troubleshooting techniques.
  • Networked computer system environments and peripheral device capabilities.
  • Best practices for data security, storage, information transmission and retention, as criminal justice information and personally identifying information is data that is regularly stored and queried by Sheriff’s Office employees.
  • Local/Wide/Storage Area Network (LAN/WAN/SAN) operating principles.
  • Workstation applications, operating systems, Active Directories, Windows and Linux OS, and special software applications used in Deschutes County.
  • Technical support principles, processes, and standards.
Skill in:
  • Administration of network and server systems and infrastructure.
  • Assessing customer support needs, and implementing effective solutions.
  • Solving technical problems involving integrated operating systems and hardware platforms. Installing, repairing, and maintaining computer software, hardware, and peripherals in a multiple operating system environment.

Compensation

$5,987.89 to $8,024.33 per month for a 173.33 hour work month. Excellent County benefit package when eligible. This union-represented position is available immediately.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent;
  • AND two (2) years of technical support experience;
  • OR any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills and knowledge to perform the job.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Principles and practices of technology management, system development and systems integration in a government environment.
  • Experience working in the public sector or in a customer service capacity.
  • Knowledge of administrative procedures associated with law enforcement.

Necessary Special Requirements

Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Oregon driver's license within 30 days of hire date. The employment offer will be contingent upon presentation of an acceptable and verifiable driver's license, pre-employment screening for criminal history, driving history, and controlled substances (NOTE: Positive test results for marijuana use may result in rescission of a contingent offer of employment). This screening must be completed with satisfactory findings in order for a formal offer of employment to be extended.

Must be willing to work a flexible schedule when needed, including holidays, evenings, and weekends to meet the needs of the unit.
Must pass a driving record review and criminal history background.
  • Background Investigation: A complete and full background investigation will be completed prior to a candidate receiving a conditional job offer.
