Quality Control Supervisor-Processing/Foods
Primary Functions:
- Supervises first shift Quality Control Operations.
- Works with other department heads to ensure the highest standard of quality for products as specified by Sanderson Farms’ quality assurance programs.
- Cooperates with customer representatives to ensure that current specification for products are being met.
- Works with USDA inspection, grading personnel, and production supervisors to assure that pertinent requirements are being met.
- Informs Quality Control Manager and Division Manager on variances from standards of equipment, personnel, incoming materials and finish products as it relates to quality standards and USDA regulations.
Major Responsibilities:
- Trains and supervises activities of quality control personnel in the following areas at the Processing: Slaughter, Eviscerating and chilling, Deboning, Specialty (Cut-up), MDM, Marination, Preprice, Shipping, Grounds and facilities.
- Ensures quality of products received and produced by (but not limited to): Conformance to Customer specification, Conformance to SFI specifications, Conformance to temperature requirements, Conformance to other requirements as necessary.
- Ensures high yields by checking the accordance of scales, scale sheets, weights from previous day’s production, package weights, etc.; monitor plant for floor waste, and do drain checks for usable product.
- Prepares and distributes daily and weekly quality control reports for management.
- Monitors plant for compliance with USDA SPS, SSOP, and HAACP/Pathogen reductions regulations.
- Manages the implementation of the SIS program or other FSIS programs in the plant.
- Investigates and responds to customer inquiries and complaints as directed by the Quality Control Manager and Division Manager.
- Maintains quality control hold tag log and supervises the hold tag program.
- Inspects facility for pest activity and works with pest control company on control and extermination.
- Monitors, evaluates and coordinates with sales and plant management on products returned from customers.
- Orders necessary supplies and materials and coordinates with Division Manager and Quality Control Manager in preparing the quality control budgets.
- Provides leadership and encouragement in an atmosphere of safety consciousness as well as efficiency of production.
- Demonstrates knowledge in the operation of machinery and is aware of the abilities of other quality control personnel so that accurate quality control data can be collected.
- Demonstrates ability to manage a Quality Control program and organizes tasks and performs duties effectively.
- Performs other duties as required.
Key Working Relationships:
- Reports to Quality Control Manager, who provides general supervision and policy guidance concerning the nature and scope of work, as well as specific projects.
- Keeps Division Manager and Quality Manager informed with timely and sufficient information in all aspects of the quality control program.
- Maintains close working relationship with USDA personnel as it relates to regulations and product quality.
- Maintains close working relationships with all departments in the processing plant including maintenance and sales in all aspects of product quality control.
- Works with other individuals and groups internally and externally as required to contribute to the goals of Sanderson Farms, Inc. quality control program.
- Identifies with the values, philosophy, and mission of Sanderson Farms, Inc.
- Ability to communicate well and use tact and discretion in dealing with customers, USDA and other groups.
Position Requirements:
Academic: Bachelor’s Degree in Poultry Science, Food Science, or related field.
Experience: One years’ experience supervising quality control programs in a USDA inspected poultry slaughter facility.
Physical: Ability to work in various temperatures. This includes temperatures of 32 to 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Able to work in cold, wet and humid environment. Able to bend, stoop, reach, grasp, twist and kneel. Able to work in noisy and dusty environments. Able to stand long periods of time. Tolerate exposure to chemicals within OSHA limits. Able to wear all required PPE. Able to meet the criteria of the DOT Motor Vehicle Records.
