Context/Scope


The HR Business partner is a critical leadership role accountable for driving the organization and people strategy in service of delivering year on year business performance growth in line with Diageo’s performance ambition. The HRBP is to be an agile, connected and accountable thought leadership partner to the business team members, enabling growth and performance. The role uses the levers of Talent Management, Reward Management, employee engagement and organization efficiency to advance the performance of the function it is accountable for. You will support attracting, developing, retaining, and growing a diverse group of dedicated individuals across Diageo North America. The HRBP is a member of the leadership team for the customer population within its remit in order to drive the organization, people, talent and culture agenda. The HRBP is measured on their achievement of these performance outcomes. Measurable plans and actions with achievement targets and measures feature highly.


This role reports to the SVP of Human Resources North America and provides business partnership to the President of Diageo Beer Company and Diageo Canada, a number of Vice Presidents along with their respective and broader commercial teams.


*Role will require ravel approx. 40% of the time – which includes traveling to Canada at a minimum once per month OR as required by the business*

  • Partner with key senior collaborators and their teams to consider and take decisions that improve value for the organization.
  • Responsible for annual budget overhead and headcount planning for the partners and functions it supports including employee benefit and leadership & capability training budget plans


Market Environment/ Complexity


  • This role spans two Businesses across two different countries which requires agility and critical thinking to work with the President of both groups to find efficiencies while also appreciating the nuances of both teams.
  • The HRBP role also works optimally within the function partnering other HRBP/HRDS across markets, First Point and Global Centers of Expertise.


Leadership Responsibilities/ Key Partners


  • The role holder will be encouraged to actively engage in and help define the North America Organization and People strategy along with contributing to broader team outcomes. As a team, we support each other through coaching, sharing ideas and solutions and always striving to achieve the biggest impact possible.
  • The HRBP will support a number of senior collaborators across the Beer and Canada business units within the North America market (NAM) and plays an integral role on their respective leadership teams.
  • As a true Business Partner, the role supports delivery of the business priorities of Inclusions & Diversity, Health, Safety & Wellbeing and enabling a culture where every individual can be themselves with pride and authenticity
  • The role holder is encouraged to play an active role within the NAM HR team, engaging on broader priorities from Diageo’s People Strategy and contributing to Global outcomes.


Top Accountabilities


  • Deliver the integrated talent & capability plan using internal and external analysis to ensure we have the most diverse and dedicated employees delivering the ambitions of the organization today and tomorrow
  • Diagnose and deliver full talent interventions against business needs. This includes:
  • Coach line managers to deliver people commitments, drive performance and manage employee relations
  • Resourcing planning & career path planning down to agreed levels
  • Embed core processes (P4G, Capability and Competency Development)
  • Drive successful performance through the HR operating model and ways of working – engaging key line and FirstPoint team members to build successful relationships to drive business results
  • Measure organizational health and lead culture & engagement strategies in line with Diageo’s overall ambition including its commitment to having the most inclusive culture where every individual can thrive and deliver their best performance
  • Delivery of succession plans
  • Lead key HR annual processes: ARC, Talent Engagement, Talent planning, MYTP, and OE.
  • Lead Organization Effectiveness plans, interventions and solutions


Qualifications And Experience Required


You will have a solid background in leading HR subject areas where you will have already proven your ability to shape and deliver organizational effectiveness and change with confidence. You will bring the following:


  • Experience in working successfully with customers at the most senior level – black-belt coach– influencing, supporting and challenging.
  • Strong change and project management skills
  • Can diagnose OE capability gaps and translate into the OE levers – learning, culture, process, ways of working and behaviors
  • Prior experience of working with global client groups would be advantageous – specifically in Talent Management, Organizational Effectiveness, Reward Management, Culture & Employee engagement
  • Previous experience at senior HRBP level ideally within the FMCG environment
  • Ability to use HR data and analytics to diagnose trends and link to business performance outcomes
  • Deep understanding of design principles and how they influence organizational design, use relevant benchmarking and can influence the team members to choose a design which is both effective and efficient.
  • Have a good understanding of HR processes and process improvement
  • Strong talent management experience and great talent judgment – ability to assess talent gaps, and orchestrate the actions needed to strengthen the talent bench
  • A solid coach to leaders
  • Deep commercial understanding a strong internal and external radar to understand what will impact the business now and in the future
  • Experience of driving culture and engagement strategies
  • Understand what drives value for the business area you support, and puts effective interventions in place to enable this
