Why we need a Director of People Operations
To date, People Operations has taken a scrappy approach, standing up as much infrastructure as we could to keep pace with 200% headcount growth in two years. We’re entering a new phase on the team as we shift from building systems from scratch to continuous improvement, iteration, and longer term project management of internal initiatives. Going into our third year of operation, WorkMoney’s People Operations team is well positioned to fortify the infrastructure we’ve put in place and begin making more data-informed decisions related to workforce planning, organizational design, talent acquisition, and performance management.
What Will The Director Of People Operations Do
The Ops Dir will serve as a deputy to the VP of People Ops, providing high touch project management support to members on the team who are driving internal HR, employee engagement, and technology compliance initiatives. They will also be responsible for keeping the VP abreast of initiative progress and blockers, and provide thought partnership on opportunities to streamline, automate, and measure the department’s work. They will bring much needed capacity to ensure new projects and core work are executed, the department’s systems for task and project management are well documented and coordinated, and that the VP is focused on the most high priority and consequential change management and administration conundrums. Our department’s work is divided into functional areas which the Ops Dir will play a role in supporting and advancing (HR Administration, Employee Lifecycle, Information Security, Compliance and Contracts, Team Support, and Culture and Inclusion).
In the first year on the job, a successful candidate will take on responsibilities and projects such as:
  • HR tech stack exploration - assess personnel and performance management platforms and data systems and recommend efficiencies, improvements, and new protocols suitable for a rapidly scaling team
  • Develop engagement roadmap - drive the development and maintenance of annual calendar of touchpoints that cultivate internal learning, reflection, and skill building for staff up, down, and across the organization
  • Project management support - coach and support three People Ops team members focused on day to day tasks and continuous improvement projects
  • Embed DEIB practices - foster and contribute to efforts to apply a Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging lens to all aspects of people management
  • Track department quarterly goals - work closely with VP to establish and monitor progress on department KPIs and provide strategic counsel on roadblocks and pivots
Requirements
What we’re looking for in a candidate
A successful candidate will be comfortable working in an ambiguous and agile environment. You’ll have an appreciation for structure and process, along with a solutions orientation when operating in the absence of structure and process. Of course, you also gotta know your stuff – we have some big and bold commitments to creating an inclusive workplace and need a thought leader in their own right who wants to advance progressive and leading edge HR and People practices.
Must Haves
  • Collaborative, flexible and solutions-oriented with proven ability to maintain poise under pressure
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to administer multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize workload, and effectively manage resources
  • Strong organizational development insight and Knowledgeable of the application of information technology to this type of work including a variety of HR systems, and Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent, including Excel
  • Minimum 7 years of progressively responsible experience in an operations leadership role, including experience in a rapidly scaling organization
  • Depth of experience with people and culture internal initiatives, human resource management, and/or employee relations
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and goal-oriented, with a particular knack for proactively surfacing opportunities for improvement, efficiency, or rethinking
  • Exceptional listening and communication skills; must also be comfortable conveying and presenting information verbally, in writing, and in all team settings when needed
  • Record as an effective team member and team builder, with experience leading, managing and directing a minimum of 2 staff members
  • Demonstrated ability to partner with managers to address HR needs, effectively coach and mentor staff, and handle confidential information with discretion

  • Strategic planning and facilitation skills
  • Experience in event planning, design, and execution
  • Experience with HR, Administration, and Engagement in a partially unionized workplace

Why join our team?
Our workplace is dynamic and we aren’t afraid to pivot when things don’t work. We’re mission driven, hard working, and scrappy AF. The truth of the matter is: we’re doing cool stuff with really cool people and having a great time doing it.
