POSITION DETAILS


The CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies (SLU) offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in Labor Studies and Urban Studies that are designed to meet the needs of working adults as well as tradtional-age college students who seek to learn more about the challenges confronting poor and working-class populations in the wokrplace and in the community. It also collaborates with other units of CUNY to offer a range of college-credit programs designed to give workers the academic and technical skills they need for professional advancement. Its faculty includes distinguished scholars in the social sciences, as well as expert practitioners in governement, labor, and public service.


Reporting to the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, or her designee, the successful candidate will administer the day-to-day office activities and other related duties of the departments and assist in important campus-wide efforts.


In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:


  • Responsible for drafting Board Resolutions for SLU
  • Manage the collection, ensures adherence to records management policies, and distribution of confidential and time-sensitive information and documents.
  • Coordinate the development of draft semester course schedules to maximize enrollment in courses.
  • Manage the budget for both the department and its external grants; in addition to managing the data for faculty research, publications, and grantsmanship
  • Assist with planning and implementing various strategic initiatives, programs, projects, meetings and events in line with the mission of Academic Affairs
  • Serve as an internal and external resource on policy and procedural matters to various constituents; receives inquiries and resolves them, or refers them to appropriate staffing using discretion and sound judgment.
  • Prepare communications, reports, presentations and briefs to faculty, students and staff; in addition to updating stakeholder mailing/distribution lists and other information required for regular departmental and school correspondence.
  • Lead and facilitate faculty search processes
  • Administer the daily operations of the office to enhance organizational effectiveness and ensure discretion in all activities.
  • Design, administration, and analysis of course evaluations, as well as analysis of projects related to measuring student persistence and achievement in different modalities.


NOTES: 1) Until further notice, this position is eligible to work remotely and work on-site in the office.


  • Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment. The vaccination requirement will expire at the end of the Spring 2023 semester.


Qualifications


Bachelor's Degree and four years' relevant experience required.


Preferred Qualifications


  • Detail oriented and accurate with strong quantitative, analytical, research, and writing skills
  • Experience with PeopleSoft Campus Solutions
  • Proven proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite; ability to learn new software and systems
  • Proven experience managing a complex calendar and daily office management; and ability to draft and edit complex work-related correspondence
  • Strong work ethic and integrity, with a high level of professional discretion, supplemented with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Strong time management skills with effectiveness in planning, following-up, and executing myriad tasks in established and fluctuating deadlines
  • Four years of experience supporting an executive level administrator performing administrative, operational and budget work, preferably in a higher education setting

Annual salary starting between $70,238 and $86,645, commensurate with education, credentials and experience.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Health Plan Coverage for Employees Hired on or after October 1, 2022


City of New York employees and employees of Participating Employers and their eligible dependents hired on or after October 1, 2022 will only be eligible to enroll in the Emblem Health HIP HMO Preferred Plan and must remain in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan for the first year (365 days) of employment.


After 365 days of employment, the employee will have the option of either remaining in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan or selecting a different health plan within 30 days before the end of the 365th day period. If a new health plan is selected, the new plan will be effective on the 366th day. Only after the 365th day can the employee participate in any Annual Fall Transfer Period.


An employee who needs to request an exemption from the required enrollment in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan can do so by submitting a HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form to Emblem Health. An employee, or eligible dependent, must meet certain criteria and the request must be approved by Emblem Health before the exemption is granted. The HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form and HIP service area are available on the Emblem Health website.
