A high-end cultural institution seeks an Assistant Controller reporting directly to the Controller. This position will be a part of the senior management team providing information to make key decisions to drive the organization. The role is very hands on but also includes visibility with high level executives. The responsibilities include:
Manage the accounting operations of the organization including budget development and analysis, auditing, payroll, accounts payable and receivable, billing, general ledger, payroll, relationship management with banks and other vendors and financial reporting in accordance with the GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and internal policies and procedures. Analyze existing processes and identify new opportunities to improve processes.
PRIMARY DUTIES
· Financial Statement preparation and all supporting schedules
· Perform detailed analytics related to variances that are included in the Board package
· Manage all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
· Facilitate the month end close
· Maintain internal control safeguards for the receipt of revenue, costs and both program budgets and actual expenditures.
· Oversee all financial, project/program to ensure fiscal responsibility
· Oversee the activities for disbursements, ensuring the accurate and timely processing of accounts payable, core employee expense reports, cash control, and core payroll processing utilizing external payroll services.
· Oversee accounts receivables to ensure the accurate and timely management of all Accounts Receivable aging components including billings, cash receipts application, monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing including monitoring federal and state reports prepared by outside agencies.
· Direct the preparation and filing of necessary tax schedules in a timely manner, ensuring accuracy and completeness of data.
· Assist in the annual budgeting and planning process; administer and review all financial plans and compare to actual results; explain, and correct variances as appropriate.
. Requirements:
Education/Experience
· Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
· CPA certification strongly desired but not required.
· Must have experience working in a NON-PROFIT organization.
· Demonstrable experience in creating and driving the analytical framework for planning and managing organizational change; ability to anticipate the infrastructure and systems needs in a complex
· Demonstrated ability to maintain broad business focus while addressing details
· Demonstrated solid experience coordinating audit activities and managing reporting, budget development and analysis, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, payroll, and accounting for investments.
