Job Description
TITLE: Assistant Controller
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
Reports to: Vice President
Direct Reports: None
Location: On Site
POSITION SUMMARY
This is an incredible opportunity to join a passionate team of hospitality professionals. The Asst Controller at Delicious Hospitality Group (DHG) is responsible for working with Staff Accountant and Director of Finance on the day-to-day management of accounting operations of our organization. The Assistant Controller will play a key role in the long-term business planning and management of our financial systems, while also maintaining detailed record keeping in all financial and administrative areas of DHG. This is a full-time salaried position and will be on-site in our offices located in New York City.
KEY RELATIONSHIPS
Work directly for the Director of Finance and Staff Accountant to ensure long term financial success while also working in tandem with FOH and BOH leaders within individual units to improve daily business operations.
Manage the accounting functions of DHG and all restaurants.
  • Assist with processing weekly payroll.
  • Weekly reconciliation of petty cash and banks at each restaurant.
  • Stay up to date with changes in systems, processes, policies and procedures as they relate to new accounting standards, regulatory changes, changes in business strategy, operations changes and business initiatives.
  • File sales tax, prompt and quarterly taxes for all applicable entities.
  • Review financial statements for accuracy and legal compliance.
  • Support ad hoc projects or analyses as needed.
  • Assist Director of Finance with financial statement review and month-end close.
  • Organize and maintain cloud-based filing system for record keeping related to government agencies, insurance, benefits, AP records, bank reconciliation backups and credit card receipts.
  • Manage all AP- review and process invoices, reconcile vendor statements, quarterly vendor audits, manage vendor relationships and database, and W9’s.
  • Process and distribute mail in a timely manner.
  • Handle weekly/monthly bank, credit card reconciliations, and intercompany accounts.
  • Compile monthly reporting 1 week after month end closing.
  • Lead month-end reconciliation for balance sheet accounts and income statement.
  • Review and approve daily sales and sales commission entries.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of accounting systems for financial transactions.
  • Compile weekly sales reports for operations teams.
  • Manage all AR- reconcile daily deposits to POS, reconcile events AR, resolve open checks.

Relevant Experience, Skills, Knowledge & Ability
  • 5-7 years of Accounting, Finance, or related experience within the hospitality industry, preferably multi-unit restaurants.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • An appropriate sense of urgency, ability to mentally prioritize and stay organized in high-volume atmosphere.
  • Courteous, professional manner, strong customer service skills.
  • Computer literacy and strong typing skills, experience with accounting software may be required.
  • Ethical behavior when dealing with sensitive financial information.
  • Bachelor degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of accounting procedures and principles.
  • Knowledge of Restaurant 365 and Plate IQ is preferred.
  • High level of accuracy and efficiency and attention to detail.
  • Team oriented with a strong sense of excellence. Punctuality, and dependability.
