POSITION SUMMARY:
uAspire is seeking a Vice President of Development, NY to promote uAspire NY’s financial sustainability and ensure it is well positioned within the region’s postsecondary education/college access and attainment community. The Vice President is a seasoned fundraiser and relationship builder/steward, who can provide local leadership and will be responsible for sustaining and creating new influential funding relationships to secure the necessary financial resources and strategic positioning to effectively achieve our programmatic and policy impact within the region. While the Vice President will not have direct staff management responsibilities, their Performance Management goals will be developed to ensure deep collaboration, engagement, and decision-making with a cross-functional team representing the fundraising, impact, and policy departments.
The two primary responsibilities of the Vice President of Development, New York are to ensure that the region has a diverse and sustainable funding portfolio and have strong strategic relationships with key local stakeholders.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Vice President, Development will work with the Chief Advancement Officer (CAO) on strategic decisions and fundraising activities for uAspire’s New York region. These include:
Fundraising & Earned Income Generation
- Lead in the assembling and submission of final proposal packages.
- Work with the CAO, ensure annual fundraising and earned income goals are achieved in direct coordination and partnership with the national development and Business Development teams, raising approximately $2M annually for New York operations.
- Serve as a leading uAspire representative across New York, including at external events, and proactively conduct outreach to prospects to inspire for support and partnership.
- Identify, cultivate and steward strategic relationships within a diverse portfolio of local foundation, corporate, individual donors,community, as well as school-based partners.
- Coordinate the development of timelines and internal team technical reviews, and lead writing of proposals for funding.
- Develop a pipeline capable of raising additional funding, including multi-year commitments, necessary to sustain and grow the New York regional operating budget in future years by identifying new prospects and qualifying potential opportunities.
- Develop proposals for philanthropic support and fee-for-service offerings.
Regional Strategy & Alignment - In partnership with the CAO, the Vice Presidentwill develop and oversee uAspire’s fundraising strategy for the region. To achieve this, they will:
- Maintain a deep understanding of the region’s post secondary environment in order to proactively identify and respond to opportunities, changes, and challenges.Identify and pursue new financial, programmatic, and policy opportunities and partnerships across New York state to increase uAspire’s impact across New York.
- Serve as uAspire’s regional representative and spokesperson with funders, key stakeholders, and constituents.
- Engage and serve as a thought-partner with New York based uAspire Board members in order to make full use of their commitment, connections, and knowledge to strengthen the organization’s capacity, profile, and impact.
Contribute to the continued development of uAspire’s organizational culture and values
- Promote and personally model behaviors of honesty, truth, respect, and fairness in interpersonal relations.

- Collaborate with the Talent team to implement organizational wide values and culture initiatives and where necessary adapts those to fit the local team dynamics and needs.

Education, Experience & Skills:
- Knowledge about postsecondary/college access, persistence, and/or affordability; direct leadership experience and/or personal experience preferred. Experience with New York City and/or New York State education systems strongly preferred.
- Skill in leading initiatives that balance innovation with continuous improvement.
- Able to develop creative solutions and engage in innovative thinking in order to see an issue or opportunity in new ways.

- Minimum five years of nonprofit development and/or marketing experience.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Understanding of their own identity and the ways in which this could impact power dynamics and relationships with staff, funders and board members. Demonstrate strategic thinking and visioning; is able to keep the big and longer-range picture in mind when formulating plans, making decisions and taking action.

- Passion for our mission of ensuring all young people have the opportunity to pursue and afford a post-secondary education.
- Able to take in complex data and information, synthesize and determine best decisions and actions.
- Strong in transparent, clear and inclusive communication; able to move cross-functional teams through complex decision making and prioritization of needs.
- Demonstrate success in securing 6 and 7-figure philanthropic support. Preference for significant experience with major individual donors.
- Demonstrate success in developing and managing external partnerships.
ANTICIPATED START DATE:July 3, 2023
COMPENSATION:The salary range for this position is $115,100-$127,100. Salary commensurate with experience and education.
STATUS: Exempt, full time
CLASSIFICATION:Hybrid - Some travel throughout New York will be required for this role. Applicants in the tri-state area encouraged to apply.
