Duties

The incumbent works in the Community Care Section of the Business Office with direct accountability to the Section Supervisory Program Analyst. The purpose of the position is to work on behalf of the Veterans, their families and outside sources to resolve or minimize difficult and complex problems and questions with issues involving the Community Care process, with regard to problem resolution and patient advocacy within the Community Care Section.

  • Knowledge of process and procedures to be carried out and to provide information to non-VA providers, telephone triage and different services;
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage time effectively;
  • Knowledge of financial accounting system, to review and look up claims for various medical expenses;
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with all types of people;
  • Prepare reports in various formats and present data to various organization levels;
  • Knowledge of multiple systems and current computer technology regarding imaging applications, PC fax applications and numerous applications;
  • Ability to collaborate, communicate, set priorities and organize work, to meet deadlines, ensuring compliance with established processes, policies and regulations;
  • Ability to communicate tactfully and effectively both orally and in writing to meet program objectives;
  • Knowledge of medical terminology by the incumbent due to the technical nature of language utilized by most community care providers including physicians and hospitals;
  • And all other duties as assigned

Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-5) in Federal Service, that has provided the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of a Program Support Assistant. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: ability to collaborate, communicate, set priorities and organize work, meet deadlines, ensure compliance with established process, policies and regulations; communicate tactfully and effectively both orally and in writing to meet program objectives; prepare reports in various formats and present data to various levels. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hour worked per week.

Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary occasionally requires carrying of light objects such as files, books and papers; some walking standing and bending. No special physical qualifications are required.

Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
