Job Description

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR

The Partnerships Manager works under the general direction of Sr. Director, Advancement & Partnerships and will be responsible for managing the deliverables associated with our partnerships. This includes managing relationships with existing sponsors, identifying new sponsorship opportunities, and working with internal teams to ensure sponsor deliverables are met. The ideal candidate will have experience in nonprofit fundraising, brand sponsorship management, and possess excellent communication and relationship-building skills. They maintain positive relationships with all levels of GRAMMY Museum staff as well as key external stakeholders and partners.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Manage relationships with current partners and sponsors, ensuring all contractual deliverables are met in a timely and effective manner, which may include deliverables from multiple departments within the Museum.
  • Support the Advancement department’s general stewardship needs, such as fundraising events and supporting Individual and Foundation donors.
  • Work with internal teams (e.g., Events, Public Programs, Curatorial, Education, Marketing, and Communications) to coordinate sponsor deliverables such as: logo placement, acknowledgments, and other benefits.
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase sponsor engagement and retention.
  • Work with external partner organizations (e.g. the Recording Academy and AEG) to provide materials and information for cross-organizational sponsorships and partnerships.
  • Monitor sponsorship revenue and expenses, providing regular updates to leadership and Finance.
  • Identify new sponsorship opportunities that align with the museum’s mission, programs, and values.
  • Ensure compliance with all legal and ethical standards related to sponsorship and fundraising activities.
  • Create and maintain sponsorship materials, including proposals, decks, agreements, and reports.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

As Partnerships Manager, you will need to possess a range of skills to be successful in this role, including:

  • Problem-solving skills - You should be able to anticipate potential problems and quickly come up with solutions when they arise.
  • Relationship management: As a Partnerships Manager, it's important to build and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders, including sponsors, donors, volunteers, and board members. You need to be able to develop trust, listen actively, and manage expectations.
  • Project management: The ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines is essential. This includes planning, organizing, and executing sponsorship activities and events, and ensuring that all deliverables are met.
  • Fundraising and sales: Nonprofit partnership managers need to be skilled in fundraising and sales, including identifying potential sponsors, making successful pitches, and negotiating contracts. Knowledge of fundraising best practices, donor stewardship, and grant writing is also important.
  • Strategic thinking: To be effective in this role, you need to be able to think strategically and identify opportunities for growth and development. This includes identifying new sources of revenue, developing sponsorship packages, and creating effective strategies for retaining sponsors and donors. Additionally, the ability to evaluate the effectiveness of partnerships and make data-driven decisions is key.
  • Time management skills - You will need to manage your time effectively to ensure that events and projects are completed on time; must be able to work night and weekend programs and special events, as needed.
  • Communication skills: Being able to communicate effectively and build strong relationships with sponsors, donors, board members, and internal teams is crucial. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are needed to write proposals, negotiate agreements, and deliver presentations.

Additional Qualifications include:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and CRM databases, preferably Tessitura.
  • Must be able to work nights and weekends as needed
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, sponsorship management, or related field.
  • Knowledge of the music industry, preferred - You should have a basic understanding of the music industry and be familiar with industry trends and practices
  • Self-directed with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or a related field.
