Job Summary/Company:
Sparks Group has partnered with a medical association in Linthicum Heights, MD and together we are seeking a State Advocacy Manager to handle all state government relations, advocacy and legislative activity. This position will serve as point of contact and assure tracking relevant developments in health policy at the state level. Additionally serves as staff liaison for the State Advocacy Committee as well as keeping internal stakeholders and the association members informed of activities on state advocacy along with a variety of coalitions. This position requires to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19. The ideal candidate must be able to commute in office 2 - 3 days a week to the District of Columbia office.
Responsibilities:
- Serves as the lead staff on outreach to the association’s Sections, state medical societies and sub-specialty organizations
- Serves as primary staff liaison for the State Advocacy Committee
- Monitor and research areas at the state and section level relating to association’s mission
- Assists the Governance, Advocacy and Policy division with policy-related initiatives
- Develops written materials, articles and official letters on legislative issues affecting the associations mission.
- Attends state focused meetings, conferences and related activities
- Follows health legislation and regulation at the state and section levels
- Responsible for concept development and evaluation of the association’s legislative agenda
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree required and 5-7 years’ experience; Master’s degree preferred with 3 years’ experience3 years of administrative assistant experience preferred
- Knowledge of the state legislative/political process Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Degree in Political Science, Public Relations, Health Policy or related field preferred
- Outstanding communication, public speaking, writing and organization skills
- Strong computer skills in Microsoft Word and Excel necessary
- Experience developing and implementing long-term state advocacy strategic plans
- Experience working in political and/or legislative activities
