Job Description

Under the supervision and direction of the State Public Health Dental Director, participates in the coordination, development, implementation, and assessment of Smiles for Moms and Babies (SMB) activities with the SMB Coordinator. Assists in evaluating SMB outcomes and making suggestions for improvement. Works with subject matter experts to develop educational content via online learning modules and through other means to promote oral health. Work involves creating, editing, and updating online learning modules using specialized software. Involves course evaluation, making suggestions for improvement, and acquiring continuing education credits for courses. Maintains and evaluates the program website. Drafts and posts program announcements via email lists and other means as directed. Collaborates with vendors and DSHS Communications to develop and coordinate awareness campaigns via social media and other means. Leads special projects as assigned by the Dental Director. Participates in grant writing and reporting, video development, etc. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Essential Job Functions:
35% - Create and evaluate educational content for Oral Health Improvement, particularly SMB, using a project management approach. Collaborate with subject matter experts within the program to develop content. Use specialized software to create online learning modules that are concise, informative, and engaging, while adhering to the principles of plain language, user accessibilty requirements, and following the DSHS Brand Guide. Post the modules on the learning management system (LMS) and acquire continuing education credits when possible. Help in coordination of translation services when needed. Evaluate courses via pre- and post-tests, course evaluations, and surveys. Identify areas for improvement and modify as necessary. Track course participation and outcomes.
25% - Engage with stakeholders. Maintain the program website and identify ways to improve it. Monitor website content and links on pages to ensure material is fresh and links are active. Monitor and report on website traffic. Draft and post messages for the program email list. Evaluate stakeholder engagement with email blasts. Promote program activities and educational opportunities by creating and disseminating course flyers, announcements, etc. Take the lead role in social media, paid media, or other awareness campaign activities. Collaborate with program staff, vendors, and DSHS Communications Unit on campaigns and campaign evaluation. Give presentations about the program and/or represent the program at conferences and exhibit booths.
20% - Work with SMB Coordinator to develop short- and long-term goals to grow and sustain SMB. Identify and implement ways to promote SMB messages, resources, and training opportunities. Identify new audiences for SMB and promote SMB to them. Strengthen and maintain engagement with programs and individuals who have already worked with SMB. Identify and implement ways for SMB messages to stay prominent for audiences identified by the SMB Coordinator and Dental Director. Get feedback on SMB education and resources via course evaluations, surveys, focus groups, etc.
15% - Work on special projects as assigned by the Dental Director. .
5% - Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.

Knowledge Skills Abilities:
Knowledge of public health principles and understanding the importance of education and prevention for public health.
Knowledge of online education and factors to consider when developing online education modules.
Knowledge of public awareness campaigns through social media and other means to reach specific groups with a specific message.
Skill in presenting information in a way that is engaging and appropriate for the audience.
Skill in planning, creating, implementing, and tracking projects.
Ability to write well and edit one’s own work to submit a product that needs minimal revision.
Ability to quickly pick up and adapt to new types of software, media, or other systems or processes in order to complete work.
Ability to create and/or edit slides, one-pagers, training modules, etc., in a visually appealing way.
Ability to work independently, think creatively, and problem solve.

Initial Selection Criteria:
  • Experience educating people and/or creating educational content. Education experience may include, but is not limited to, conducting training sessions, creating and giving presentations, creating or modifying online educational modules, and hosting or participating in webinars.
