Job Description
Position Description

This position assists the Director of Workforce Planning and Programs as well as the Workforce Division staff by supporting the planning, execution, and monitoring of program activities while ensuring the effective use of resources and optimization of results.

The Youth Engagement Specialist will outreach and recruit participants, build relationships with key stakeholders and community partners as well as facilitate workshops.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Establish contacts with higher education and trade schools to develop paths for participants to follow.
  • Some weekends and nights as needed to meet the obligations of the Workforce Division.
  • Provide opportunity youth and young adults with guidance and information regarding career exploration, direct employment services (resumes, mock interviews, etc.) goal setting, and job search assistance through individual coaching as well as group workshops.
  • Outreach and recruit in the community to build out youth programing participant caseload and services.
  • Attend meetings, seminars, workshops, and perform other duties as assign
  • Understand the work of Harris County Precinct 2 Divisions / Departments and collaborate on projects with community stake holders as well as Precinct 2 colleagues.

Requirements

Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma with 2 to 3 years of experience providing employment services and wrap around supports to youth and young adults
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Able to recruit, interact, and work well with youth (16 to 24 years old) and young adults in a respectful and caring manner.
  • Knowledgeable of services provided by community-based organization for youth and young adults.
  • Ability to handle and work with confidential information in accordance with privacy laws.
  • Can communicate easily
  • Experience providing employment services and wrap around supports to youth and young adults
  • Proficient knowledge of computers and a strong aptitude for working with technology, coupled with the ability to learn and absorb new information quickly.
  • Must be able to handle multiple on-going projects and deadlines.
  • Understands program metrics and has experience working with grants
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication, project management, planning skills, and time management.
  • Has a strong network and can build relationships
  • Active in using social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Linked In, YouTube, TikTok and others) to recruit youth and young adults.
  • Has team building

General Information

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:
  • Some remote work is available, but most of the time will be in the office or in the field.
  • This is a full-time position which operates Monday-Friday during regular business hours with some weekends and nights as needed.
Salary:
  • Based on 26 pay periods
  • Depends on Qualifications

Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.
