THE ROLE
Schoolkit continues to grow its team and its impact and is seeking a systems and operations expert to support its employees, its clients, and its ambitious growth strategy.The Director of Operations oversees SchoolKit’s internal business functions including Finance, Technology, Business Operations, and Project Operations.The Director of Operations reports to the Chief Operating Officer and directly supervises two Operations Managers as well as the vendor partnerships that support internal operations. The ideal candidate is an experienced leader with a proven track record for leading finance, technology, and operations functions for a growing organization.
This position can be based from a home office anywhere in the U.S. Depending on location, expected travel time is 10 - 15% for company or team retreats, other events, and occasional client meetings.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Oversight & Analysis (40%)
- Ensure the financial health of the organization; oversee financial operations, provide fiscal oversight of SchoolKit’s revenue collection, compliance, billing, accounting, reporting, and payroll activities ensuring smooth processing of all financial transactions and strong financial controls.
- Review, audit, and resolve any financial discrepancies in collaboration with the external accountant, bookkeeper, payroll specialist, bank, Operations Managers, and other staff members.
- Develop financial analyses to inform problem-solving and decision-making regarding sales, project delivery, workforce planning, benefits and compensation, and systems/vendor investments.
Operations (35%)
- Manage organizational risk including compliance, IP exposure, and insurance coverage
- Oversee the implementation and continuous improvement of Schookit’s finance, technology, project operations, and business operations functions. Identify and create customized tools, processes, systems, and resources to streamline work.
- Oversee assessment, selection, planning, implementation, change management, and maintenance of new and existing technology and tools, with the assistance of outside consultants and vendors
- Research, implement, refine, codify, and manage SchoolKit’s operations functions, processes, policies, and systems, ensuring that they are rooted in Schoolkit’s culture and core values and that they yield operational efficiency.
- Evaluate, contract with, and manage third-party operations vendors and contractors that provide mission-critical support across operations functions including accounting, payroll, 401K, insurance, project operations, and technology.
Leadership and Management (25%)
- Lead an operations team; promote team coordination and communication, and provide ongoing feedback and professional development to execute against goals and deliver client work
- Act as operations lead for complex client projects that require custom solutions to support the logistical planning and management of large educator trainings
EXPERIENCE
- Highly effective people manager with experience managing individuals in operations roles
- 8-10 years of prior experience serving in an operations role with 3 - 5 years in an operations leadership role, ideally in an education-related organization such as a school, a school district, non-profit, or small business
- Experience managing vendors as part of an extended team
- Experience in financial analysis
- Change management experience, specifically with building the financial and technical infrastructure of a high-performing organization transitioning from startup through scale
- A bachelor’s degree, Masters degree preferred
SKILLS AND QUALITIES
- Knowledge of financial accounting and general ledger software preferred, with QuickBooks experience a plus.
- Advanced user knowledge of Microsoft Excel & Google Sheets
- Experience with payroll processing and software preferred, with ADP experience a plus

COMPENSATION
The starting salary for this position will be between $120,000 - 130,000 and is highly dependent on experience.
