The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Director of Employee Relations, Human Resources [R0136138]
ROLE of the POSITION
The Director of Employee Relations partners with management and senior leadership to establish a performance management culture and promote effective working relationships throughout the University. The Director leads the Employee Relations Department and oversees the development, implementation, and management of the University’s policies, practices, and functions related to employee relations.
Under the direction of the Vice President and Chief People Officer, this position will:
  • Provide oversight of program requirements, record keeping, and reporting compliance relative to performance appraisals, personnel records, grievances, appeals, and disciplinary actions.
  • Develop, implement, coordinate, and manage employee and labor relations strategies, functions, policies, and procedures for the University.
  • Manage the exit interview process for departing employees. Analyze responses and provide feedback and direction to management based on information gathered.
  • Recommend, develop, and deliver trainings to senior leadership, management, and employees regarding employee relations topics.
  • Analyze, interpret, apply, and provide direction on applicable State, University, NSHE, and CBA provisions, policies, procedures, and guidelines related to employee relations matters.
  • Advise administrators, deans, directors, managers, and supervisors on management of complex human resources issues and situations, including but not limited to, performance management programs, conflict resolution, culture improvement, disciplinary action, and grievance resolution and strategy.
  • Administer system and statewide collective bargaining agreements including contract interpretation, contract implementation, grievance processing, and formal requests for information. Provide training, advice and counsel related to labor relations topics and issues across the campus.
  • Supervise department investigations in response to complaints and potential violations of University, NSHE, and State policies.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires a bachelor’s degree in a related field from a regionally accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and 10 years’ experience in human resources or employee relations, with at least 5 years’ supervisory experience and 5 years’ experience directly managing complex employee relations matters and investigations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience working with unions and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Experience working in higher education, state, or local government.
  • PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification.

SALARY RANGE
The annual salary range for this position is $120,000 to $130,000, depending upon experience.
